Re: From 4 to 5 Speed , but Which one ?

Hi Russ, I haven’t spoken to New Forest Classics about how they are getting on with Quaife. I’ll ask. My opinion is purely personal based on experience, but not shared by all! I would not recommend the first two. Shift quality being the main problem, and position of the gear lever. The Tremec T5 has...

Re: 3.07 2.88 CWP

Another rack offering from SNGB or CMC based on a Ford Focus rack. Going back to the diff discussion, I run a 2.88 with standard 4 speed box. Admittedly my car runs a 6.0 litre injected engine with AJ6 mods, but I find it just right. You don’t need to use the gearbox much! As I have posted many time...

Re: C15168 Early steering wheel rim wood.

Sorry, I’m a bit late to this thread. Peter, I have an original wheel, complete. The wood is not varnished but waxed. The only area where it has been altered is there are more holes around where the wheel attaches to the boss. They would be covered up anyway. I’m happy to sell, if it suits.

Re: Front Alloy 4 Pots

When I bought my Series 3 it had standard 3 pot brakes. They were ok, and worked reasonably well, although would suffer from fade on a track day after 4 laps. I had AP Racing 4 pots fitted last year, and they are fabulous. Compared with a pair of Zeus on my old S1, they are streets ahead in performa...

Re: Great deal on Series 1

Wonderful! Can I buy it for my 2 year old grandson? I can’t keep him away from my E-type. He stands on the seat and say to me, “handbrake....off Popups,”. Then he puts it into first gear, I kid you not, and looks at the accelerator pedal and says, “ ‘Aguar GO! I ask him where we are going to which h...

Re: Cleaning wheels

My father taught me how to clean wire wheels in the 60’s on his various Jaguars. The basis for this was that if I did it properly, I could earn some pocket money! I still use the vert same long round bristle brush I used to clean father’s wheels. The secret is to wrap a cloth around the brush and sl...

Re: V12 ECU

Yes, but don’t stop at the seats, put the blessed thing in the boot! Out of the way, and accessible when you need it. Sorry, another flaw with the E type UK V12’s. They are really trying hard to get their cars right, but they have a way to go yet.....

Re: Cover for car

Thanks Jeremy. That’s the point, having to dry out your sheets every couple of weeks despite a dehumidifier. Also the “dragging of the sheets over the paint.....leads to micro scratches that have to eventually be “mopped” out by an orbital polisher. It all depends on what standard you are happy with...

Re: Cover for car

Iopena, not sure what part of the States you are from, but from the height of your garage and the masonry wall, if you live in an area of high moisture content, then you will experience condensation, especially without a dehumidifier. A dry climate is a different thing altogether. Whatever you may s...

Re: V12 ECU

Safest place is in the boot, under the rear panel. That’s where mine is. Why put it under the seat. Less room, less accessibility, and not really convenient for the loom.

Re: From 4 to 5 Speed , but Which one ?

Quaife will probably point you in the direction of New Forest Classics. I gather the teething problems are sorted, and NFC will sell you one. I still ask why go for 5 gears? However, despite what I or others might say, go for what you want and enjoy!! Whilst on the subject of Quaife. They do another...

Re: From 4 to 5 Speed , but Which one ?

With respect, listen to those of us that have cars fitted with either option....I’m in the 4 speed / 2.88 camp! Brian’s knowledge is indeed encyclopaedic, but I am reliably informed, not necessarily personal experience on V12’s.

Re: From 4 to 5 Speed , but Which one ?

Top gear (4th) with a 2.88 diff I am doing 3000 revs at 75. It works out at 25mph per 1000 revs. However, I am running 16”x 7” wheels with 225/60 Tyres.

Re: From 4 to 5 Speed , but Which one ?

Umm, not my experience with Mr Blor. Rude and arrogant. Ask New Forest Classics who were out of pocket by several thousands of pounds. The problem is that it is based on a Tremec T5, with the 5th gear changed to suit an appropriate ratio for an E-type. All a bit hit and miss.....

Re: From 4 to 5 Speed , but Which one ?

My experience of the Elite Racing gearbox was not good. Two fitted on my Series 1 both had a noisy 5th gear. Elite were difficult to deal with. Then I sold the car and bought a Series 3 with a 6 litre engine. Thankfully, the car had been fitted with rebuilt original 4 speed Jaguar. However, with a 2...

Re: V12 ECU

It might be worth a chat to E-type UK as they are into installing fuel injection and ECU’s to V12. They have quite a lot of knowledge on the subject and are very helpful. I am sorry if Roger Bywater left you in a quandry. I get the impression AJ6 Engineering is possibly winding down, with many of hi...
