Re: Timing setting for vacuum advance V12

Yes all vacuum disconnected.
I also run a 5 speed and a 2.88 diff, which the V12 handles effortlessly.
As far as the extra advance goes, why don’t you email Ron at British vacuum and ask him. He is very approachable.

Re: Timing setting for vacuum advance V12

Hi Simon, I have a very similar setup to you. The only difference being the use of the SNG HEI ignition amp, from the later V12s. I went down the Opus, reopus Path till finally arriving at the HEI amp which has been superb for a number of years, but I digress from your question. I have the same adva...

Re: Series 3 V12 Running Hot

Thanks Rosco
That’s a relief, I didn’t want to change things. I’ve been running like this for several years with no problems.

Re: Series 3 V12 Running Hot

I’m now confused about the current draw of the fans on high speed setting. Ole posted some figures quite a while ago that showed each fan drawing 12.2 amps on high, so a combined total of 24.4amps was within my 30amp relay. Since then another poster came up with a much higher figure, well over the 3...

Re: Series 3 V12 Running Hot

Thats a very nice job you are doing on your radiator area.
I may have to modify my relay setup to yours, as I have only got one relay for both fans on high speed, and thanks to another poster I found out the amperage draw is way above the relay rating.

Re: Rad Rebuild

Hi Peter, If you want sensor info contact poster MarekH. His V12 has more sensors on it than the space shuttle. I would say why do you need the extra sensor? You have covered all the weak points with the rad rebuild, coolcat mod, the otter switch upgrade, and a manual override switch. If you want fu...

Re: Rad Rebuild

Nice job, I did the same mod with the VW fans.
Use relays to power the fans when you wire them in, you probably knew that, theres been lots of threads on it.
On high they pull quite high amperage.

Re: Series 3 V12 Running Hot

Hi
I don’t reckon the modern relays look too bad, ok not a shiny tin case, but, with the shroud installed they are not even visible.

Re: Series 3 V12 Running Hot

Hi I’ve also done the coolcat mod and very happy with it. My suggestions are Replace the Otter switch with cool cats modern temp sender mod. It uses a nice alloy fitting to replace the otter switch steel one, with a modern Porsche switch, reliable and readily available. Don’t use tired old Lucas rel...

Re: Fuel Type (E-Type Series 3 V 12)

hi Just use 95RON as the minimum. My owners handbook specifies minimum 98RON. However I have always used 95RON with no visible adverse effects when I rebuilt the engine, after 20 years of use. Maybe if you intend to race, or drive like a race driver then 98 would be best, otherwise 95. I have never ...

Re: Modified S3 coupe to roadster value

Ok, so UK authorities don’t want this mod done at all it seems.
I know more we’re done in the USA, so perhaps I should ask the question on the US forum.

Re: Modified S3 coupe to roadster value

Thanks again Steve,
It was a well known , but maybe not common mod back when I did mine. I’m hoping there are a few floating around the UK, and someone may have some more input on values.

Re: Modified S3 coupe to roadster value

Thanks Steve, Well it will be cheap compared to an original roadster. There’s a big difference between roadster and coupe prices, which was the reason I did the mod in the first place. Here in NZ it remains registered as a coupe, but has a certified plate for the modification. So no problems in that...

Modified S3 coupe to roadster value

Hi Guys, 30 years ago I converted my S3 from hard to soft top, absolutely no regrets, my wife and I have enjoyed so many wonderful trips with the wind in our hair, and a smile on our faces, but Now the time has come to sell her, what’s the value? Is it worth somewhere between hard and soft top price...

Re: Cap and rotor failure

That’s the first time I’ve seen a failure like that. I have the sng kit on my car as well, and have enjoyed a reliable ignition. I have had a cap failure due to excessive oily deposit buildup causing tracking and arcing across the cap. Jaguar recognised this problem when some exploded. The fix was t...

Re: Series 3 Brake Servo Replacement⅚

Honestly guys, on the S3 bleeding the brakes is not a big deal, due to the rear access panels. I don’t think these are present on the S1 or 2 Just use one of these. https://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=2ahUKEwit0ubsiIzpAhW1zTgGHfbMDqQQwqsBMAF6BAgJEAQ&url=https%3A%2F%...

Re: Series 3 Brake Servo Replacement⅚

If they are just putting in a new servo, not reconditioning the old one then someone who knows what they are doing should make those times. however that's just an estimate from me, I'm not a mechanic. I'd be interested to hear what your garage thinks. Changing to silicone fluid is another whole exer...

Re: Series 3 Brake Servo Replacement⅚

to remove the old servo needs, about 1.5hrs. drain brake fluid, remove reservoir for better access, remove the vacuum reservoir for better access, disconnect pipes, undo 3 nuts in footwell, probably take off front splash guard to give better access. It takes quite a bit of fiddling to work out the o...

Re: E-type Tinder

Hi Love the post. On the V12 there are hardened valve seats. With your water overflow, are you filling the radiator header tank to the top? If so, don’t, as the expansion of the water as it heats up will spit out quite a bit. I find that the header tank should sit at about half full. Where does the ...
