Re: JEK 30
I have just been in email contact with David Leck the Registrar at the JDC E Type Directory, as shown on the above link. Once you go on that link, there are further options on a drop down menu in the top right hand corner which takes you to “Directory”. On opening this link, this takes you to the Re...

Re: Replacement fuel gauges - different case spec?
Richard, Is it definitely a fuel gauge fault ? Are you sure that the fuel sender float in the fuel tank is correctly operating ? I have just read that you have fitted a new sender, but can you check that it is not defective or taken in fuel. In other cases of failure, it is not unknown for these to ...

As confirmed in the 1984 Champion Spark Plug guide. Re: Limited slip diff oil
Whilst we are talking of LSD additives, this is a useful additive on newly rebuilt LSD differentials, particularly if you have new clutch plates or if you are getting “chatter” from the Diff. https://i.postimg.cc/KcCnjNjw/4-C9-B6-A2-D-6-CE1-4-AF6-8459-57862-A897-EB5.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/m2M7HHFD...

This is how it is packaged in the UK and what I have always used in my LSD Jaguar diffs :- https://i.postimg.cc/jjHFxVCv/EF7896-DF-D523-4-CE5-BCBB-663-FF07-DCDC3.jpg Just checked online and this specific oil still seems to be available from traders and on places like EBay. It does appear that Castro...

Re: IRS Rebuild
Hi Colin, Plenty of advice on here once you get to the reassembly. Just a few initial tips :- 1) If you haven’t already got a remote bleed assembly to bring the rear brake pipe bleed points down to an accessible point, now is the time to consider fitting one while the cage is out. 2) When refitting ...

Re: What Diameter Safety Wire
Hi Mike, You don’t specify which bolt on the car you wish to lock. It generally would depend on what size and torque of fixing you are trying to lock to prevent them undoing. 0.025” is on the thin size to me, but it needs to be a good quality lock wire. This what I use when working on E Type back ax...

Re: Diff Output Shafts - 2nd Type Ball v Taper Roller Bearing types
Sorry Guys, I seem to be adding more to the confusion on the identity of the various Types, whether Type 1, 2 or 3 - as used specifically on the E Type model. The point I was trying to explain was that the Taper Roller Output Drive shaft from a much later Jaguar XJS Differential, (1992 was the year ...

Re: Diff Output Shafts - 2nd Type Ball v Taper Roller Bearing types
Geoff,
We just crossed over !
Still surprised that the Type 3 was so soon. That would make the Type 2 fairly short lived. Perhaps they realised there was a problem with the Type 2 arrangement ?
Regards,
Dave

Re: Diff Output Shafts - 2nd Type Ball v Taper Roller Bearing types
Hi Geoff, I wasn’t too sure on dates, which I why I said “about”. I would be surprised if the change away from the Type 2 would be that early. Not to sure about the Type 3 changing the brake calliper mounts as both these two Diffs on the bench have the same integral cast brake mountings. The key poi...

Diff Output Shafts - 2nd Type Ball v Taper Roller Bearing types
I had a call to go and see a friend regarding his Series 2 E Type back axle. I expected one of the issues could be with the poor oil seal arrangement and the now obsolete original double ball bearings used in the Type 2 Differential, (Diff), Output Shafts. However, on viewing the car it did not have...

Re: Series 1 rear brakes recurring failure.
Hi Kevin, (?) I’m a bit worried now about your second paragraph that “on switching on the ignition now, no engine running, brake fluid runs out freely from the rear”. That should not be happening unless you have a bleed valve open ! I would be more worried about the potential damage leaking brake fl...

Re: Series 1 rear brakes recurring failure.
Sorry, just seen this. Do we know what model of E type this is ? I can’t believe its anything to do with the handbrake as these are small pads and completely separate from the hydraulic circuit. A common problem when the brakes can seize on is the Reaction Valve piston seizing in the Master brake cy...

Re: Spacer location
It may not be related, but there are two “distance pieces”, part number C 24424, between the Alternator Bracket and Water Pump. They look a bit like the two as the third set. As seen on my spare engine :- https://i.postimg.cc/mDLcrHtb/C5095635-79-E0-4084-9029-6-FB0-B1432-A38.jpg https://i.postimg.cc...

Re: Final drive end play
Nigel, I’m with Steve on this. There should definitely be no movement “in and out” due the preload on the Pinion bearings, but if the differential is empty of oil, you can get a very minor movement and noise when the Pinion flange is spun back and forth, due to the lack of oil on the mating Crownwhe...

Re: Final drive end play
Steve, I understand the Pinion setting is set by shims to match the figure etched on it, but it was the bearing preload I was concerned about if the collapsible spacer had been over torqued after fitting the new oil seal. I’m still trying to understand Nigel’s “lateral” movement, if he could advise ...

Re: Final drive end play
Hi Nigel, Just trying to understand your issue and where you are applying the “lateral” movement. The oil seal you have replaced is on the Drive Pinion, so presumably you removed the drive flange to do this. After you fitted the new oil seal, how much torque did you apply to the Pinion nut or did yo...

Pete, Have a read of post #13 on here :- http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14010&p=130901#p130901 I had a similar issue of an intermittent starting issue. Re: Rear Wood Jacking Spreder
Paul, Here’s mine from a previous post :- I have a simple jack plate which fits each side of the exhausts. The wooden 70 x 45 mm lifting supports just fits snugly each side of the pipes, with the wood picking up on the differential trunnion brackets. https://i.postimg.cc/P5pdZMc4/FE10-DA18-FE72-4-F5...
