Re: Insurance who to use

I have always used Classicline. No limited mileage, sensible agreed valuation process and not expensive. My premium was £312, agreed value of £145k, unlimited mileage and my wife as a named driver.

Crankshaft damper pulley doesn’t normally come in two pieces does it😂😂
Did it last more than 5000 miles?

Re: First post on this forum

The auction Chris was referring to wasn’t EBay. Some classic car auction sites will keep the auction running if bids are still coming in at the end of the allotted time - one allows 5 minutes from the last bid before closing others allow more or less. This makes sure that the seller gets the best po...

Re: First post on this forum

If you take a look at how the Merlin engine was attached to the Spitfire body, that may give you a clue! Engine held in a tubular frame, attached to the cockpit bulkhead.
I also believe that the no.1 cylinder being at the bulkhead end of the engine is an aero engineering thing.

Re: First post on this forum

That seems to have been a theme throughout last year and also this year, and not just E-Type auction hammer prices. I’ve also noticed E-Type UK (DM classics) regularly reducing some of their stock prices. If you’re prepared to take a risk, there might be a bargain to be had at auction!

Re: First post on this forum

I think that’s just some defaults that get added by eBay . It’s also advertised via Car and Classic and it doesn’t mention any of those extras!
Those pics are deffo taken near Peterborough which is where the seller is advertising it - I know the village of Achurch.

Re: Fuel sender / guage

If you think the temp gauge is ok, then swap the connections from the fuel to the temp gauge (or vice versa) and that may rule out a faulty gauge.

Re: early screen washer bottle query

Dave
If you want to translate the nut/bolt/washer/screw codes - UFS.419/8H - you need to download the Jaguar fastenings file from the knowledge base.

The above code translates to Fine thread Set Screw, round head slotted, 3/16” 32tpi, 1” length under head.

:yeahthat:
I originally had 5.5” rims with 205 tyres but reverted to new MWS 5” chromes with the new vred v rated 185/70 tyres. Much lighter steering at lower speeds than the 205’s I had before and at a very good price compared to the other makes.

Re: Electronic ign. tacho problems

You can get just the fixings, but they come supplied as a set, so expensive. David Manners has a kit for the S1 which may fit the s3, but will need to ordered as o/o/s. https://www.jagspares.co.uk/site/search?q=REV.%20COUNTER%20FIXING%20KIT%20E-TYPE Or, if you can find out the original spec, you can...

Re: Engine abnormal noise

Also check that all the exhaust manifold nuts are done up tight to the down pipes. Some of mine were not tight and the metal gasket was rattling, plus a bit of a metallic clonking when going over bumps. It sounded similar to yours. I tightened them all up and noise went away.

Re: Series 1 seat frame reassembly question

Have you looked on any of the supplier websites for diagrams of the Seat base/runner parts? I can’t see them in the SNG Seat parts section. Mine was a 3.8 so had different seats, but similar slider assemblies and I don’t recognise those bits in your photo. Could they be part of the recliner mechanis...

Re: E-Type values - a comparison

Yes, it is a ‘special’ version of the Cossie. A low mileage example of the 500 upgraded by Aston Martin. Someone clearly wanted it instead of a ‘standard’ cossie Sierra. But is it any different to the world of E-Types? People will pay upwards of £250k for a 3.8 because it is ‘outside bonnet lock’. O...

Re: inner front fender, paint/tar???

I had Upol Raptor applied to mine, as well as at the rear inner arches and underside of the floor pan as it is very hard wearing and can be tinted to match the body colour.
It had a semi-gloss finish which also helped when cleaning off the dirt etc.

Re: Wood on orig steering wheel

Hi, I fitted a similar new wood rim to mine. If the new wood is a good quality item, it’s straightforward to fit. I cleaned up the metal frame to get rid of any old glue etc, but left it ‘rough’ to get good adhesion of the new glue. Check the two mating surfaces of the new rim for anything that will...

He has a couple of other nice looking RHD 2+2 in the £60-70k bracket - this one has won ‘several concours’ trophies (doesn’t specify which or when) so maybe he feels the premium is justified. There maybe someone willing to pay for it, who knows? If you are going to use it as a marker for your own va...

Re: 2+2 valuations

Hi Classic car insurers, indeed all types of insurers, live or die by managing risk as realistically as possible. As noted above, they will use various factors together with some clever algorithms within their systems to derive your premium. (I have audited these systems and algorithms many times). ...
