Re: E-Type S1 wiper system, help needed

Hi Mikael. Not sure what you mean by sticking out? Do you mean the brush carrier? Looking at your picture someone has been there before you...the red evil crimp joint ain't what Lucas would have done. Suggest you remove the brushes and armature, clean up the inside. Check the resistance of the field...

Re: E-Type S1 wiper system, help needed

I should add that the above is a series 1 with the park switch on the wiper mechanism central wiper spindle...later series 1 the park contacts are on the motor

Re: E-Type S1 wiper system, help needed

The wiper system wiring is ahem, complex. Providing the wiring colours and connections between the switch and motor are followed it should work. If the park contacts fail open the wipers will stop the minute they are switched off. If they fail closed the wipers will run continually. If they don't ru...

Re: Two electrical questions

Thanks Simon...tis a handy trick....the indicator bulb... Trouble is most cheap digital multimeters are hopeless at accurate measurements of an ohm or less...a short. Loads like bulbs and motors will also often read as a near short with a meter. Using a cheap multimeter to monitor current is also un...

Re: Two electrical questions

I agree with Simon. 1. Heater motor resistor for slow run position. It looks in poor condition. 2. Later bodge probably to extend the white wire that joins to the red wire using a wire nut (awful idea On a car!). 3. If the pins don't align then you won't ever get them to connect. Replace both ends w...

Call Norman Motors Ltd in London (jaguar specialist) on 0207 431 0940 and ask to speak to Ken. Give him the number stamped on the block just above the oil filter housing. Ken is a walking encyclopedia of Jaguar parts. He will know which pump...May well have a new one ready to send...

Re: Parts quality!?

Having done quite a lot of work to my old car this summer I've bought lots of bits from several suppliers... Carb rebuild kit and sundry bits from SNGB (ultimately Burlen fuel for the carburettor stuff)...fine. Water pump, hoses, bonnet front frame, trim parts, gearbox tunnel cover, hinges, bits, fi...

Glycol based coolant....bluecol here in the UK....do remember that it's extremely toxic to pets so do dispose of old coolant safely and mop up any spills when refilling!

Re: Series 1.5 carburettor setting

I would agree with Steve and Simon. I rebuilt my carbs as part of the engine rebuilt. Set them exactly as per the workshop manual. Car started instantly.. Balanced them at idle with minor tweeks.....idles smoothly at around 700 rpm (presuming the tank is reasonably accurate)...

Re: Overheating issue

If it behaves ok for 15 mins and then starts to climb suddenly it seems less likely to be ignition. Unless the carbs are hugely out of tune I doubt they are the issue...I wonder slightly about head gasket...might be worth doing a carbon monoxide test at the header tank...mate had a similar issue on ...
