Steve, both Mick and Eric do superb jobs - I have seen some seats trimmed by BAS in Wales and they looked great too. You might want to compare prices.

Re: insurance

I will be taking delivery of a 65 3.8 roadster in about 2 months after a full ground up restoration and will require an agreed valuation insurance. The premiums i have been quoted range from ?160 upwards. How can i be sure that an insurance company will honour the valuation in the event of an accid...

Re: Paint shop

Hi all, I have a few questions regarding paint shops: Do you know some reliable paint shop addresses either in the south of UK, or near London (or if at all possible in Belgium) who can really really do a good job ? Do you have any idea what such a job would cost ? (considering that you start from ...

Re: brake problem

Just rebuilding my e type and the brakes are locking on. As soon as you crack open the brake pipe at the master cylinder they release. Both the master and slave cylinder/servo have been re kitted with new seals. Any body out there worked on this kind of a problem? Oh and yes there is free-play betw...

Agree with David re Suffolk and Turley (they have done 2 hoods for me and will be doing my third). Mick Turley is also excellent but I can't speak for any work done by him for me. I used BAS to provide my trim kit and they trimmed the Radio Console, Centre Console and Seats (I provided the shells al...

Probably more common on the XJ6 variants than an E. I had my BMW converted 2 years ago and haven't looked back. I don't think I would bother with the E though - I don't do enough miles (5k) to warrant it and you aren't allowed on the tunnel. Also, where would you site the filler etc etc. I dont thi...

Go for the coolkat fan and otter switch. I fitted one and decided to test it by starting the car and left it running in the garage while I went for a cup of tea. Came back some half hour later and loved listening to the 'click' as the switch came in, the 'whirr' of the fan coming on and a massive bl...

David (having told you that I knew of no-one who could restore your wheel) I have a chum who restores <18th Century furniture - uses animal glues, wedges, dowels pins etc - all in the traditional way. If you want to get the wheel down to me I could get him to look at it for you. He won't touch it un...

On the four e types I have restored over the years, I have always re-used the original torsion bars. However, if I did need to buy new, I would probably go for the S2 bars as they are thicker.

The other thing to remember is not to plate the torsion bars as you can alter the characteristics of the metal.

Painting or powder coating is fine but not plating.

CMC Seatbelts

Has anyone fitted the CMC (or has them fitted) Inertia Reel Seatbelts on their OTS? Love to know how you get on with them.

If you speak to Andy at Hutsons, he can provide you with repro Dash parts and he also has (as near as damn) the correct black material to cover them with (he'll do that as well for you). Having been down the road of buying original dash parts and paid the earth for them in the past, I recommend taki...
