Re: E type rebirth

I found it interesting that JLR went for a numbers matching car, obviously they think its important? I can see the mechanics at JLR wondering around their workshop when they get a delivery of parts saying these are crap, you have to fettle everything to make it fit, welcome to our world  Dave

Re: Brake pad upgrade

I used Greenstuff pads when I had standard Dunlop brake calipers on my 3.8 and they transformed the braking, nice smooth bite and no heart stopping moments when you think the brakes aren't working. I used them once in anger when someone braked hard in front of me after a rabbit ran out and they did ...

Re: Anybody fitted a Hutson bonnet?

There is a company near Nuneaton and its not RS panels but I can't remember the name of them now, they make aluminium bonnets, hard tops and no end of other E-Type stuff. A very good mate of mine works for them and is probably one of the best sheet metal workers around, nothing he can't make. When w...

Re: Anybody fitted a Hutson bonnet?

I thought it was the opposite way round, much of what all the E-Type suppliers sell when it comes to panels comes from Robey's. I have been to Robey's many times and been in their press shops, they have the tooling and presses to fabricate the panels, I have also been to Hutson and never saw a press...

Re: Kelsey Hayes component

The part you are looking is the spring clip that holds the sintered filter in place, I got one is a spares kit I got from JEM in Hinckley years ago.
You could Google JEM and see if they have one, I think I bought one of the very last repair kits they had.

Re: Exhaust upgrade advice

I was talking to Uryk of E-Type fabs the other day about exhaust systems and since I beleive he originally designed the systems that Classic fabs and Ecosse now sell, he sold the exhaust side of the business to Classic fabs, this is what he has to say: Cast manifolds are right - that's why we spent ...

Re: Exhaust upgrade advice

Just for info I believe E-Type fabs are now making exhausts and manifolds again. Can't help you with what exhaust to get for your car, you need to speak to the manufacturers and they will sort you a system out. I wouldn't run without the rear mufflers driving it at any speed I imagine will be unbear...

Which is why when householders have been burgled they claim for a lot more than was actually taken, I am lucky I have never been burgled.
Pushing it there I suppose!

Re: Oil cooler XJ6 on E type

Simon, The oil filter housing which allows you to fit the spin on oil filter fits perfectly I think you need a S1 XJ6. You have to use the XJ oil filter housing gasket and not the E-Type one. If you get the early oil filter housing with the cooler pipe holes in you can drill through and join both po...

Re: Oil cooler XJ6 on E type

When I got the oil filter housing from an XJ6 to fit to my E it came with the cooler and the pipes. I liked the idea of the oil cooler but was told that the XJ6 oil cooler rad was too large and I could over cool the engine, especially in our climate. I decided not to fit the XJ6 one and went for n M...

Understand all the above, except about 3.07 being a bit high in second. I've got a 3.07, and pull away in second extremely easily, no clutch slipping, and accelerate hard from the start, so doesn't seem too high at all. If anything, I'd like a higher ratio - or 5 speeds. Dave, wouldn't 80 be 3200 r...

I must say it looks a lot like an older restoration but thats probably unfair without a close look. I think they are the sealed beam headlamps that were fitted to non UK spec cars, or ...

I have a 3:31 in my 3.8, its all I know and I have found it fine in any gear. It was a bit of a pain at high speed doing around 80 would be 3200 RPM.
That's changed now since I have a 5 speed box.

My flat floor which is 21st November '61 doesn't have any angle brackets only two self tappers each side where the brackets would have been. It looks like the holes were still being put in in where you suggest and Jaguar simply put self tappers in to fill the holes. I've never noticed bolts in the h...
