Re: inner front fender, paint/tar???
The bonnet of my car was resprayed sometime in the past, and that included a respray of the underbonnet and a black protective coating under the wheel arches. IMG_20211206_145217.jpg It was not a top quality job and the black coating appears to chip under use, revealing what I think was the original...

Re: Hard Top Bracket
Thank you David.
So a "production version" was available from ca. March 1962, as numbers from XKEdata tell us.
Are pictures of the early pieces constituting kits A and B (brackets probably) available?

Re: Hard Top Bracket
The early OTS did not have brackets installed for attaching the hardtops.
I think I have read here that hardtops were produced later as a factory option (maybe in 1962?) and since then brackets were installed on the OTS body.
Certainly David (Heuer) could tell us whan was that...

Re: Refurbishing door handles/locks
Thank you Phil.
So apparently they blank everything apart what concerns your own car, no possibility to see infos on the cars just before and just after.
Not surprising though...

Re: Refurbishing door handles/locks
Normally, the door keys would be the same on each side. For a fee, you can contact Jaguar Heritage and ask for a photocopy of the build ledger (which shows the key numbers the car left the factory with). They are likely to ask you to verify your ownership of the car as well as asking you for the ke...

Re: New Heater Matrix from Martin Robey
copper is better at conducting heat than aluminum, although aluminum is able to radiate the heat into the air better than copper because of its lower density. The main reason for Heater Matrixes and Radiators being made of Aluminum today is cost, both in material and manufacturing Another reason fo...
Re: Rain?
Same nuts here.
Especially on an old, preserved, non rust/treated car where rust will run inside seams and cavities (thinking especially of my 61 spot welded bonnet flanges).
Would be different on a nuts and bolts restored car where steel has been correctfully protected everywhere.

Re: How to demist Smiths gauges?
I fully agree on the humidity risks in hidden cavities, hence the need to cure it. What is strange however is that this happened only on my OTS. The FHC which is nearby in the same garage does not show this problem. Unless the humidity has been trapped in those OTS cavities long ago before I acquire...

Re: How to demist Smiths gauges?
Many thanks for the numerous answers. I think Steve (bitsobrits) may have a point, and Marek explains why. I indeed noticed that, when cold, there was some sort of "humidity" on the metal surfaces in the engine bay of my OTS while none in my FHC. And both are parked in the same garage box... I also ...

How to demist Smiths gauges?
The gauges on my dashboard get misted when the engine warms up.
What is the right way to fix that: opening down the dash and heating the back of the gauges with a heat gun?

Re: 3.8 low oil pressure
Yes Layne, I had seen pictures and description of your installation (was useful), but I figured out that it would not be straightforward to route the hose through that hole with the mechanicals of the wipers. Also I wanted to keep the original gauge in place, at least for the time being. Btw, a 2 me...

Then arrived to existing large opening in the passenger footwell and routed it, hidden behing the moquette, until the open space between the dash and radio console: IMG_20221123_193053.jpg Finally had the hose coming out on the driver side and connected to the back of the gauge which was attached us...

Re: 3.8 low oil pressure
Here is the path I chose after looking at various options. Firstly, I preferred connecting the gauge directly on the oil rail close to the filter housing, instead of installing a tee inbetween the electrical sender and the filter housing. Looked to me simpler in terms of fittings: IMG_20221214_15300...

Re: 3.8 low oil pressure
Haha, good point on worn jeans! I took care to prior check the positioning of the gauge before installing it in order not to be in the way of my knees and also to see it correctly through the steering wheel when driving. Wrt purchasing of a new gauge from Caerbont or other suppliers, I decided inste...

Re: 3.8 low oil pressure
As it is, I can always easily remove the mechanical gauge.
I like to keep the original electric one in place.
Will see in the future

I've got my New Eve (E) gift today 31st December :santa: . Normal oil pressure read after having installed a mechanical gauge! 60 psi when starting engine cold: IMG_20221231_173013.jpg Still 20 psi at idle when engine hot, while electric oil gauge showing close to zero (the gauges are blurr...

Yes, thank you.
So a lot of care (by a good workshop) has to be taken. Otherwise it could become a recipe for (hidden) bad surprises in the future...

Re: Bodyshell acid dipping
Thank you for the video.
Interesting to see the ways water can take to perform the inside out corrosion in the body.
One question: how does the specialised shop ensure that all traces of acid inside the hollow areas are fully removed/neutralised?
