I have a related question.
My car has what seems to be an electrical capacitor besides the coil that I have not seen on other 3.8s.
Is it due to the use of that HA12 coil?
It looks like a suppression capacitor to reduce radio interference.

Hi Danny

Is the ventilation pipe from the tank to the filler box in position and in good condition?

Ugly but likely effective.
Non taken!

Actually, I agree it is rather ugly. You've shamed me into thinking about designing and making a new version.

Re: Alternator heat shield

I made one for my 3.8 using 0.7mm stainless steel sheet and rivetted some fibreglass thermal matting to the back. It was more for preventing radiant heat transfer when stationary but allowing airflow when on the move. I remember thinking that the factory 4.2 item appeared pretty ineffectual for radi...

Re: Crankshaft Damper

Hi They are all harmonic dampers and there should be no reason to depart from the standard damper if your engine is to the standard specs. So there is no need to go to the extra expense. It's probably best that you don't run the car too much if the existing one has come apart. I don't know what the ...

Re: E-Type values - a comparison

I remember the first time I saw one of these was, I think, in 1994 going North around the Hog's Back on the A3 on a summer's afternoon. It was being pursued by something equally brutal but I can't recall what that was. It was the first time I had seen flames spitting from the exhaust of a car on the...

Re: 67 fhc generator or alternator??

Hi I'm pretty sure that they changed from positive to negative earth with the introduction of the 4.2 engine and that this was accompanied by a change from generator to alternator. The control box on the left hand side of the bulkhead was replaced by a regulator, which was separate to the alternator...

Re: Fitting springs to Gas adjustable rear shocks?

These don't look to be anywhere near safe imho. Take a look at how coarse the threads are on a commercial product and how thick the metal is. Ask yourself why that might be.... kind regards Marek Don't worry about it Marek. Those are M12 grade 8.8 screws with matching grade 8 nuts. Since the nut ha...

Re: Fitting springs to Gas adjustable rear shocks?

I had these made to help me fit my springs to Gaz dampers (non-adjustable platform). It worked well but you need to ensure you tighten them evenly.

If I can find them, you're welcome to borrow them for as long as it takes.

Re: Possible choke problem

Hi Danny Have you checked that you are getting full travel of the choke lever? I was fooled for a while with mine because the second half of travel lifts the jet and gives the enrichment you need for a cold start. I only realised this when I was installing the choke cable between the dashboard and t...

Re: 1965 COUPE STOCK REAR SPRINGS AND SHOCKS NOT SNG

I've just had a quick look at the CAD layout I did a couple of years ago (from information supplied by members here) and can see that the length of the shock/spring assembly through the full travel of the rear suspension varies from around 10" on full bump to around 12.5" on full rebound. Wheel trav...

Re: 1965 COUPE STOCK REAR SPRINGS AND SHOCKS NOT SNG

Well clearly we've been like a chicken and a duck talking to each other because that's exactly what I was saying - its the distance from the spring perches to the fixing eyes that are having the effect of raising the ride height.

Re: 1965 COUPE STOCK REAR SPRINGS AND SHOCKS NOT SNG

I think you are at crossed purposes here. It is true that, for a given set of springs and car weight, the deflection on the springs will be the same no matter which damper they are fitted to. That is, the distance between the spring perches will be pretty much the same on both types of damper. The s...
