Re: Diff oil leak

You might just get away with it if your flange will slide off. The prop will move just enough to the side. These guys removed the IRS. Try forwarding this film to the 31st minute. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzcBKXF6qj8 My flange would not budge! Good luck. You have nothing to lose, so try to sh...

Re: Gearbox..To Overhaul or not Overhaul?

Shame you cant test it. In my experience of this gearbox, it would be worth changing the oil seals, o rings and gaskets anyway. They go off with age. The rest of it doesn't as long as it id coated with oil. Any competent manual gearbox rebuilder will be able to assess most of it with the top off. It...

Re: German election results and the internal combustion engine

I have back up plans. If they stop me driving my my E type, I will 1) Put it in my living room in a glass box so I can look at it or 2) Put an electric motor in it and use it or 3) Purchase an airfield or race track to drive it with my mates or 4) Move everything to Africa so I can still drive or 5)...

Re: Auction woes

Yes, the auction fees are hilarious. I think it costs quite alot to put on a show like that though, so I do have some sympathy. I am down in "Landon" most weeks, doin' property. Occasionally I use the Jag. Clients love it, so do I. Expensive though. Costs me £4 to get from Boston to Croydon and back...

Re: Auction woes

I has a look at some of the cars on Thursday. I was asked to look at the two red S3 roadsters. One with a red body and white frames, it has had loads of body "repairs" the other with holes in the bulkhead. i decided neither were worth bothering with unless you wanted to buy work. Then I looked at an...

Re: MX5 Seat Problems

Yes they are great apart from one thing. They rot worse than a 1960's Ford Anglia, seriously, Mazda gave them no rust-proofing. Zero. They all have rusty rear wheel arches as a minimum. The repair panel is about £75 a side. I saw a 54' plate one last week in my friend Nigels Mercedes workshop. It ha...

Re: MX5 Seat Problems

Thanks boys, I am glad I bought the wrong car. I don't feel so guilty about not destroying it, if that makes sense. It is off to the painters for £200 of bumper repairs at the weekend, so its future is assured. When resold it will be more money in the E type war chest. Unless my dad fancies it for a...

I think they hand them out for free at the VD clinic.

Us Jaguar drivers require the dual purpose use.

MX5 Seat Problems

I bought some MX5 seats for £300. For my latest secret e type project. Leather heated black seats. Perfect condition. Big problem with them though. The rest of the MX5 is still attached. https://s26.postimg.org/d4jhaxw89/20170919_190228.jpg So it took it round the block. 1.8 150 bhp, 6 peed manual, ...

Re: opus ignition system

A 123 tune+ distributor.

http://www.123ignition.nl/product.phtml?id=195

It will bring your sparks back in line and make them 6 times bigger.

As long as your distributor drive is not worn.

Re: Most Boring Door Hanging/Hinge pin Adventure in the World

Hello Martin, Thanks. The secret to Opalescent Silver Grey is that there is that Jaguar used more than one shade. Mine is the light shade. The paint is from Vehicle Refinishing Service in Boston, 01205 311914. The same guys there have been supplying me with high quality paint products for over 20 ye...

Thanks Hugo,

Sorry about the punchline.

I Don't think I shall try and make a career out of door hanging. Once a year is enough.

Re: Most Boring Door Hanging/Hinge pin Adventure in the World

Thanks Stu, Getting e-type doors ( or any old car doors) to close correctly is time consuming, that is for sure. However, it transforms the feel of the car and is well worth it. My conclusion is that if you know what you are doing, it is 2 days well spent. It certainly wasnt as boring as I pretend. ...

Most Boring Door Hanging/Hinge pin Adventure in the World

The doors on my fhc have always been a bit difficult to open. Pushing the button and pulling from the outside risked pulling fingernails. From the inside you had to use your shoulder to get out. Also it was obvious the drivers door had dropped 5mm or so. The doors waggled ¼ inch or so up and down wh...

What is the chassis number?

That would more clearly date when it was made and therefore what is actually is.

Re: Goodwood revival

Its the best place on earth when the sun shines. Where other cars could not go on muddy fields the E -type did-with its locking diff. Just cruised though it without getting stuck. Wish I could have made it this year. Took the best part of a day to clean it though afterwards, especially under the bon...

Good Idea boys.

I had thought about electrifying a Defender before using scrapped bits.

I suspect it is not as easy as it sounds though.
