Re: 3.8 Moss gearbox swap to a 4.2 Synchro box

I have a good 4 speed synchro gearbox as well, with no bellhousing attached. So I shall start measuring. I have an all synchro box in my 3.8 coupe. I bought it without a bell housing. I machined a Moss box bell housing to fit that box, and fitted it with the 3.8 flywheel and a 3.8 hi torque starter...

Re: Replacing rear diff output oil seal

The hub is behind the brake disc, which in turn can't be removed without removing the brake calipers. I put an IRS together once without fitting the discs and calipers and had to strip it down and take the pumpkin out to rectify this. Bolting the calipers on with the pumpkin out of the frame is hard...

Re: Series 1 LWB / (2+2) window frame fitment

Pragmatically, your new doors don't fit your window frames. This is not unheard of. From your photos, it does appear that your doors fit the body. I think the smart thing to do is to grind your window frames down to fit your doors. Horrible, I know, but they are chrome plated brass I think, and corr...

Re: New clutch and thrust bearing

I have just done exactly that on my 3.8 OTS. It is fitted with a JT5 5 speed box. They should have ensured that the clutch worked prior to reinstalling the engine and gearbox in the car. This is easy to do with a big screw driver to move the clutch fork and then seeing if the gearbox output flange w...

Re: Bonnet adjustment

No tried all that. We can get it to lock down but we have to lean on the bonnet above the latch. It is a brand new bonnet and all new front frame. If what you're saying is that you need to push down on the rear edge to get the latch to engage then this is pretty normal. All my cars are like this. P...

the head has been off before and someone has used an incorrect stud.
Sounds like the logical explanation.

Re: Restorers carrying out work without approval - The bill.

To be honest they've probably added £4k in value to your car.

You could try to negotiate a lower amount with them, but to be honest if it was me and I was selling the car I'd pay them the full amount.

Re: Fast Road camshaft conundrum!

The clearances for your cam will be specified by the manufacturer. The clearances for the various iterations of the factory cams depend on the lobe profile and yours will be different from this. For example, I have a "D Type" grind on the cams in my MK2. The manufacturer specified 8 thou clearances ...

Re: HD8 idle air path

The slow idle path comes out as a tiny hole just behind the closed butterfly at the bottom. https://discourse-cdn.jag-lovers.com/original/3X/8/9/893f4817bf8de93ed01e3eae07d13d00ee99c014.jpeg I agree that it's unlikely that all 3 are blocked Is it possible the timing is out, or the mixture is wrong?

If you have access to a lathe it would be the work of a moment to remove them from the hub.

Dont!

Cut off the flingers by all means, but don't modify your hub carriers.

Re: New rear splined hub problems

They should fit, but repro parts sometimes don't...

They are supposed to throw water away from the hub, but I don't have them fitted to some of my cars.

You should be able to remove them; they're usually spot welded in a couple of places.

Alternatively you could reshape it so it fits.

Are those pistons in post 11 the higher compressions ones? Could yours be the lower compression ones that would give you a greater depth on your measurement? Geoff High compression pistons have a bigger dome but I'm pretty sure that the piston to deck clearance is the same. The clearance to my eye ...
