On my dip stick the measurement from underside of the collar to tip is 10 inches precisely.

Re: Fault diagnosis- help needed please!
Could be a dodgy earth on the ignition. Check all the black wires to the frame, from the coil, from the dizzie. Do not rely on the dizzie earthing thought it's mount to the engine. Mine had this issue several times. Once was due to a PO using cheap lucar connectors, another was due to the earth term...

There is a very good write up on tuning triple carbs on the jag-lovers website. If I can find a link I'll post it here.

Re: WARNING…BE CAREFUL!!
My release bearing was in three parts when it eventually came out. I didn't fit it, that was done may years before I owned the car ( I bought it in 2003). I replaced the bearing because it had also worn down to its carrier.

Re: Small Car Jack?
I have an electric scissor jack. It fits in the well of the spare wheel, along with the spinner removal tool, and the copper/hide hammer. I also carry two small hardwood pads just in case the flat is discovered when the car is on soft ground.

Another vote for Vredesteins. Mine are on a 5" rim. Good grip, excellent in the wet. They make a bit of noise on smooth surfaces, but they are cheaper than almost all the alternatives.

Re: Help with clutch drag
Before you send the gearbox off for an expensive rebuild, check the release bearing is still sound. A worn out release bearing will display symptoms like you describe. Mine was down to the metal of the bearing cage. Unfortunately, the solution is engine and gearbox out even just to replace the relea...

Many years ago I needed to touch up some marks on the black bodywork of my motorcycle. I can inform you that black is not black. I tried six or seven before I found a match close enough.

E-Type values - a comparison
I know some of us angst over the value of our cars, especially the few of us who have poured much hard earned into a project. But imagine you owned this car, a rep-mobile, a very special one but it is still a 1987 Ford Sierra. https://i.postimg.cc/L5hmrnkq/rec12135-1-1.jpg Now look at it again as as...

Re: Spin on oil filter or OEM
I bought a spin on filter adaptor about 18 years ago.
It's still in the box.
Even though I change the filter at least once every year, sometimes twice, I've never felt the spin on filter was that much better than the OE arrangement.

"If your car has been restored correctly"
Er no. My car came from The E-Type Centre. They were not known for restoring cars, rather the opposite. However, 20 years later I'm still driving it.

Re: 2+2 valuations
I wonder if this car will indicate where the value of 2+2s in today's market. https://angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic-auctions/2565-28-Jan-2023/653~1-1968-jaguar-e-type-42-series-ii-2-2-coupe It went for £32,400. Just over its estimate. Someone may have bought a lot of E-Type for not a lot of money.
Re: Car jack
I have a 2+2 and like David Rose I carry an electric jack. It is very useful esp when travelling with others as a group. There is always at least one flat tyre on a tour. I carry the jack in the wheel well of the spare wheel and tyre, as well as a spare tube and a puncture repair kit to repair punct...

Re: 2+2 valuations
There is a lot to criticize over the presentation if this car, not least it's S1.5 appearance / S2 classification. So much of it says S1.5, only the exhaust says S2. The front brakes are definitely Dunlop. The chassis number will say for sure. But it does look clean and is probably no more or less r...

Re: Rain?
Why are your carpets & underlays getting wet? Because I drive it in the rain? Rain is something of a fact of life here in Blighty. As for the car, there are holes through which water gets. I know it shouldn’t be, but there are holes. Miss-aligned panels and doors, crumbling seals etc, all contribut...

The best value related quality of a 2+2, is that using it , and using it a lot, does little to dent its value.
