Re: Brakes slow in releasing
This is usually a servo fault,in which the shuttle on the servo hydraulic cylinder is sticking , but the first thing I would check is that the air valve at the front of the servo control unit ( on the front of the master cylinder ) has a. a clean filter and b. is not itself sticking . If you do the ...

ACF50 is wonderful stuff, and is widely used in aviation preservation. It is streets ahead of WD40 , but it does need to be wiped over the surface for best and lasting results

I am sure you will enjoy it, Richard . The Mini, and to only a slightly lesser extent the ADO 16 1100 and 1300, are a revelation to drive and must rank high, if not the highest, in active safety because of their "swervability". It is no accident that Leonard Lord, after just one drive with Issy in t...

Re: Diagnose Engine Rattle
Simon : it is either a defect in the valve stem e.g. the slightest of bends, or in the guide. I should check the valve for straightness, and if in doubt replace with a new one. An easy check is to try another valve in the No1 inlet guide - if the stickiness is still there it is likely to be a guide ...

Re: Vacuum servo - air leak across diaphragm
I don't think this is indicative of anything amiss. The point is that in normal working, when you press the brake pedal , not only is the hydraulic shuttle moved forward , but ambient pressure air is admitted to the rear chamber which ( because of the pressure differential between the fron and rear ...

Re: Attaching heater air intake to bonnet
It rather depends on what you mean by "heater intake" . There are a number of different shapes I have seen , but they all attach to the rear aperture of the main left hand air trunk which is a fixed longitudinal square tube forming part of the bonnet assembly itself Here is a link to a pic of my S1 ...

Re: 3.8 inlet manifold gaskets leaking
This is a very common problem irrespective of the type of gasket used and/or whether sealant is applied. It is usually the result of the manifolds "settling" as the engine warms up, and can usually be eliminated by retightening all the manifold to head nuts

Re: Rear wheel play
It may seem simplistic, but the first thing to check is that it is not play between the wheel and the hub . If that is eliminated , and it is play in the hub, then you need to remove the hub ( see section H 12 in the workshop manual on this site ) and carrier and inspect the roller race bearings for...

I bought a range of plastic sealable bags ( several hundred in all ) in different sizes. Each was numbered as it was filled, and I kept a spreadsheet in both electronic and manual form showing the part identity and the number . The bags were stored in numerical order, and to find any given part it w...

Re: 215 rear 185 front ?
The E is predominantly an understeerer . If anything is going to breakaway ( other than deliberate rear end breakaway - probably in the wet - provoked with excessive throttle and steering input) it is more likely to be the front . And as already stated there are major snags to very wide rear wheels ...
