Re: Tyres advice please.
There was a comparison done by a magazine (Autobild Klassik) some time ago, albeit with a Healey. Avon and Blockley were below par. I can confirm that my Avons were no good on wet surfaces. Dunlop was top in this test. Vredestein and Dunlop are almost half the price of Pirelli and Michelin. I bought...

Re: CO setting
Tim, I got good results with 42thou on the 3.8 ( both UM and UE needle-most have same diameters at idle), and 61thou on the 4.2. You must not underestimate even slightly worn spindle bushes; you can fit neoprene seals from Burlen, but the discs wont close really tight (at least not all the time), ma...

I assume your car is equipped with SU carbs, then it is worth checking if one of the fast idle rods has got stuck in the carb body.

Re: Float level ? S1 4.2 does not start
Get yourself a copy of the SU workshop manual, everything in there.
Are valve timing +clearance, ignition timing, plug gaps spot on? Jet height below bridge 1,6mm (4.2) resp 1,1mm (3.8) as a starting point.

Re: Float level ? S1 4.2 does not start
Hi Carsten, just start from scratch, it will be faster and more effective in the end (dont ask how I know): remove carbs, remove piston, idle screw and float, clean thoroughly with carb or brake cleaner, esp idle screw bores; check body visually; check that the discs fully close (look through the ca...

Re: Battery size
Batteries on the European market may be a bit different, a standard size is 242 mm x 175 mm x 190 mm, which fits the tray - at least mine. Available in 60 Ah and a lot of brands to choose from, also available in efb technology.

tubeless wire wheels
Hi all, I just received a new set of wire wheels from MWS. The spoke nipples are sealed on the inside of the rim and there is a special valve qualifying them for use with tubeless tyres. Honestly I dont trust these features regarding reliability and tend to use tubes as in the (troublefree 60kmiles)...

Re: Selling items to someone in the EU
It works quite well, as long as you follow the basic rules for export: You need to fill out a customs form (CN22 or CN23) This must be done electronically in advance and the form attached to the package. You need to give a tariff number for the items (https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/headings...

Re: Water proofing
Water tends to find unbelieveable ways esp on an OTS Etype; I found the a-post seal to be crucial, in your case start checking contact of this seal - where it meets the hood (first ingress when driving in heavy rain) - around the dogleg between door and body (first ingress when washing the car) I go...

Re: BW transmission pressure
Hi Alfred, if you "plug" a port with the gauge, there shoud not be a loss of pressure (ie loss of gear), since it is a dead end for the fluid; sounds like air in the hose to the gauge. Connect hose to port, disconnect gauge and wait until oil comes out; try without starting first, or start only for ...
