The difficulty will be one of space . However, it should not be insuperable. I do know that people have used the late MGB remote servo to power a clutch release mechanism on landrovers , and this has the advantage that parts are widely and readily available . Incidentally, is yours a 3.8 or a 4.2 - ...

Interestingly, I have only ever seen one, and that was at Donington on the 40th Anniversary . Strangely, on the XK ( and indeed the mark 2) I thought it was a stunning colour, but on the E it looked very dull compared with Opalescent Silver Blue . I think that its lack of popularity speaks volumes ....

Does anyone actually have a 90A alternator fitted? Yes, the Americans are quite fond of fitting them. And the battery voltage does not need to be all that low to create a full charge order from the regulator . My quite new battery will drop, post cranking in winter , to about 10.5 - 11 volts withou...

The link to Norman's melted fuseholder is http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz323/christopherstorey/DSC00253.jpg Dealing with Pete's most recent post, whilst his proposition literally is correct in relation to drawn current, it overlooks the fact that alternator output does not just depend on load ...

These engines were designed now some 66 years ago, and the material specifications , and the resultant tolerances ,are not what we are now accustomed to. Of the XK engines that I have had, all have used oil , usually at a rate of about 300 miles per pint at best, and 150 miles per pint at worst , an...

Well, I'm glad I raised this subject, because I think it is an important one in terms of upgrades which contribute to safety. Norman's posts raise two important points : 1. is a lack of redundancy where there are only 2 fused circuits , leading to the possibility of effective total electrical failur...

David : my fault - it is not a Dart but a Mark 2 - now a very rare car as there were only a handful of broad bumpered manual and overdrive cars ( the 250 slim bumpered cars were more common in manual)

OT : Damiler V8 rewire and fuses

I am just about to start re-wiring my 1967 V8 , and it came as something of a shock to find that the car comes with only 2 fuses , 35 and 50 amp . No wonder the map light switch has melted! I had thought that the E, with only 7 used fuses , was somewhat mean on this score , but this is very surprisi...

Simon : I think that further testing is in order before you undertake radical dismantling. First of all, how long is it since the car had a good long run ? If you leave these cars for ages without running, all sorts of problems can arise, gummed rings, sticking valves etc . Is the oil level still se...

Peter : two points arise : are you sure that a Mark 2 ( all synchro ) box won't fit in a 2+2 ? It may need a top cover change, but I think the box and OD are exactly the same length as with early XJ6 ( the S3 used the BL 77mm 5 speed box) Also, I had forgotten that Aircon cannot be used on a RHD car

It is hard to tell exactly when my vibration appears/disappears over undulations, but it is noticeable that with a full tank I can reproduce it on hard acceleration when there is a degree of squat, which suggests that it is on bump rather than rebound that something is touching. I do not think it is...

My FHC has 6" wheels , now with 185s. There is still a suspicion that the tyres are connecting with the bump stops at a significant downward deflection of the body over an undulation, because I have been plagued with an intermittent very slight vibration which only I can feel through the pedals when...

The teenage scribbler who writes these articles really does not do his research properly . It is a shame they are not left to Richard Hudson-Evans.
