Re: My first miles in the E type

All sounding great! The gas pedal shouldn't be hard like that though. Check the linkages all the way from pedal to carbs.

Re: Dodgy coil?

Interesting to hear any other views on Pertronix. Maybe I should indeed switch back to trad points...as Angus pointed out, easier to carry a spare set and swap out in the event of problems too. Geoff... Of course - I should have said "when dawdling along at 75"... With the Simonbbc powerspark, it's...

Re: Dodgy coil?

I had a similar situation with a Petronix-type system, at high revs. Turned out the plug/coil leads were interfering with the unit, with the field they set up. Changed the leads to silicone ones, and problem was instantly solved.

Re: Various basic servicing questions

With regards to 1) I'd just get a new distributor cap. They're cheap. And a new rotor arm - make sure you get the "red" one - don't break down the same. 2) Yes, but I'd also use a wire brush (handheld is fine) to clean it all up better, and make sure the white porcelain is nice and clean. 3) and 4) ...

Hi and welcome to the forum! An E Type at 15? You're a lucky man! But great to see the hard work you are putting into it.

Re: Repetitive application of my head to brickwork.

Silly question, but I assume you're leaving the battery disconnected until you've sorted it out? Waking up to a fire in the garage would be a bit heart rending.

Re: my soft top leaks

A couple of friends of ours with OTSs simply stick a length of waterproof tape across the top covering the edge of the hood and the top of the screen. Apparently does the trick - I don't have an OTS, so can't confirm!

You're right John; when I re-watched it, there were quite a lot of clues like that! I just didn't spot them first time round - old and naive!

Re: New Member in Cambridge

I'm not that good technically, but it does sound to me that there is something more wrong than just wrong amount/type of oil if pressure went down again soon after after topping up. What do you call "low" pressure?

Great video Peter. But was the ferrari faster on the circuit, or was the ferrari driver better? He certainly seemed to try harder.

Re: E Types banned in cities.

Agree they're more fun on the open road, but sometimes on a tour you want to visit a city! I'm doing the Spanish Pyrenees in September for 14 days; great driving roads with fabulous scenery, but during the tour we will be visiting Zaragoza (great city, 2000 years of history), and Pamplona. OK this y...

E Types banned in cities.

Spain has introduced new laws, and we can no longer drive an E Type in the centre of Madrid https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-46403397 France already has rules for Paris, but classic cars (more than 30 years old) are allowed. So will Madrid follow that lead? More to the point, will we find inc...
