Should I have to pay to return an item?
My speedo recently quit. Oddometer working fine, but no needle action. I searched on various forums and found one firm that were highly recommended. The speedo was returned to me, and I fitted it loosely in the car. Still no needle action!! Talked for some time with the firm who were very helpful, a...

Re: Are these original?
Having removed my rear blingy spinners, it's clear that they are repros. Apart from the thicker direction arrow, they are much heavier than the originals. Anyway, I have removed the rear wheels and thoroughly soaked the spokes, greased the UJ's and hubs, moved the UJ shields slightly inboard & refit...

Re: Are these original?
These spinners will without doubt be the perfect accompaniment to my diamanté gear knob. I used the term continental because that's how they are described on the SNGB website. I've found the source of one of my pesky squeaks. One of the rivets holding my N/S shield together was very slightly fouling...

Re: Are these original?
Hi Geoff Thanks for the offer of your spinners. Are they continental? The reason I ask is that I use one of Lionel's wheel widget adapters and don't like to do too much bashing in my garage. To start with, I'm going to move the UJ shields slightly inboard and replace the rear spinners with my beaten...

Re: Are these original?
Hi Geoff Thanks for that. I've just had a quick scout through and am thinking that my spinners are probably original. They are not fitted to my car. The spinners on my car I bought at Stoneleigh. They are lovely and blingy, but I think they may be rechromed repro's. I've attached a pic of one of the...

Are these original?
Hopefully the eagle eyed amongst you may be able to tell me if these spinners are original? They came with my car which had been off the road since the mid 80's. They've been pretty well marmalised and I'm trying to decide if they are worth refurbishing. https://i.postimg.cc/HnN1QPtf/IMG-8813.jpg ht...

Re: Replace exterior door handle
In the top picture of this link you will see on the RHS of the picture an adjusting screw which strikes the latch mechanism arm when you press the door lock button. If this isn't correctly adjusted, the door will not latch properly. It took me a while to figure that one out. https://www.google.com/i...

Re: Starter Motor solenoid chattering
Hi Steve As soon as I'd posted, I thought that I should have clarified that it was the main solenoid on the starter that was chattering, not the starter relay which is fitted. Thinking about it though, I hadn't even considered the possibility that the starter relay may be the culprit. I guess I can ...

Starter Motor solenoid chattering
When I go to start my car, the starter solenoid just chatters with no SM rotation. I've had a good look at all relevant wiring connections but it's very unlikely to be wiring related as the wiring is all brand new. The engine earth strap is in good order and the resistance between batt earth and the...

Re: Self reguating alternator
Thanks all. Apart from wanting to be able to read my instruments at night and in tunnels, one of the reasons that I changed all of my instrument lamps was that I do not want to insinuate my hand up the back of the instrument panel to change any of these lamps ever again. Maybe slightly naive of me I...

Re: Replacing front suspension ball joints
One thing I would recommend is replacing the lower ball joints with modern sealed for life units. The original ball joints [both upper and lower] require shimming which is time consuming. I don't think there is an alternative for the upper ball joint. I wasn't aware of this sealed for life replaceme...

Self reguating alternator
For some time now I’ve been bookmarking self regulating alternators that I thought may fit my car. But my recent burnt out alternator relay galvanised me to take the plunge. I ordered this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324193342893?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D233199...

Cooling fan replacement
Has anybody on here tried, successfully or otherwise, to fit some modern [ Comex for instance ] cooling fans into the existing radiator shroud? I know that Revotech sell a complete kit which includes a new shroud but I'd prefer to use the old shroud if poss.

Re: Tracking , camber and caster settings
Hi Tony When I rebuilt my car, I replaced the upper fulcrum shafts with adjustable shafts that do away with the need for shims. Turning the shaft adjusts both castor and camber at the same time. The castor adjustment is very fine, and the camber adjustment is fairly coarse. So, you adjust castor unt...

Burnt out alternator relay
If anyone wonders what a deep fried alternator relay [6RA] looks like, here is a fine example. It explained why my ignition warning light remained illuminated, and the source of the smell near my battery. I'm guessing the insulation within the windings had broken down leading to low resistance hence...

Re: Front bumper fitting
Hi John Thanks for your reply. I did as you did and fitted the left and right bumpers loosely, then the motif bar. I made up some studs to replace the bolts in the overriders which made them much easier to fit. The NOS overriders that I bought at Stoneleigh needed a lot of trimming to get them to si...

Front bumper fitting
Whats the most straightforward way to fit the front bumper? Loosely fit the 5 pieces together and then offer this unit up to the car? Or fit the left and right pieces, then the centre section plus overriders? Or some other permutation? I will be working alone, but could probably muster a willing hel...
