I certainly think you can live with a Moss box in good condition. The reason for changing is one of gearing as much as anything else. If you just go out for the odd blast you might find the existing ratios fine but if you travel any distance at higher speeds the reduced revs a 5th gear brings offers...

I cannot understand the commercial logic of developing yet another 5 speed box Now that is exactly what I was thinking David. What is wrong with the T5 as an E Type box? It might not be the latest in gearbox thinking but on a 40+ year old car it's cutting edge. There is no way the new box can be bu...

http://www.tudorwebasto.com/

The only place to get a Webasto fitted. I've thought about it as I think it improves the looks of the 2+2 but my car came with a metal electric sunroof from new so I ought to keep that or take her off the road for a bit and cut the roof off completely.

Or the drivers side if you are in the UK.

You can just do it from underneath but it is tight and you do need to be right under it.

The factory workshop manual suggests removing the distrubtor to make room to get it out but I managed without.

Zethy Just go and drive one. If it makes you smile buy the one with the best body you can. The rest is nuts and bolts. My E gets used and abused for all sorts and apart from a loose fuel pump connection on the way home from collecting her she has never let me down. I commute in her, go shopping in h...

Glenn Just make yourself another timing mark on the top. There is usually a bolt around somewhere near that you can use to hold a pointer (one cut from tinplate or bent from a length of piano wire will do). Line up the timing mark underneath, get your new pointer in line with the pulley at the top a...

Result. If it's mainly nut and bolt jobs and it drives OK you sound to have done well.

Pity about the TVR but then you don't buy one of those if you arfe looking for dependable wheels. Just a huge grin on the days it is working.

I'm very pleased with my 123. You do need to get the Jaguar version to ensure you have a nice selection of advance curves.

My timing is absoluely stable at all speeds and I certainly noticed the difference as soon as I fitted it.

David I run my old girl on super unleaded and Valvemaster plus. It allows me to run a couple more degrees of advance without any signs of pre-ignition. I'm not sure that you'd notice any difference just adding it to the tank as you'll already have your engine set up to suit your existing fuel. That ...

Simon I've kept the original manifolds but have a Double S system from there back. I went with them because I liked their flexible joint. It's been on for about 3 years now with no problems. I've not even been good and changed the mounting rubbers - something you should do as stainless can get britt...

My advice - put the speaker money towards a loud exhaust and listen to that.

Welcome to the club.

It looks nice and straight from the photo with panel gaps I'd kill for. The rest is just nuts and bolts.

Keep us posted.

And if it does run on the bench worl out a way of putting some load on it. What runs fine with no load can soon complain if loaded.

It might not be in the spirit of things but my inclination would be to go for an exchange unit.

The original parts catalogues are available on CD from JDHT: http://tinyurl.com/4wykha but to be honest I think one of the best parts catalogue is the one from SC Parts. You have a very pretty E from the looks of it. If I see you this side of the water we'll see how well she goes!
