Re: FUEL PUMP XKE 1971
Hi . Use any available 2 to 4 lbs fuel pump available in any auto store. Should not cost more then $40.00 I might suggest an AIRTEX pump # E8016S. Been using one for years, with no problems. Get it on line, if you don't mind the shipping cost. I even carry a spare in the trunk down with the spare ti...

Send alternator, any alternator, to Quality Remanufacturing in Paterson, NJ. Google, and you will get all the info. If you live in the USA, no matter who you send your alternator to, this is where they end up. Go direct, save a bunch of dough !

Re: Choke hard to activate
Mask off choke and spray lightly with black wrinkle finish...it will look brand new ! Easy. Yup, keep that cable lubricated ! Its funny that Jag always called it a choke, as it is not a choke...it simply to hold the carb open a bit to make it more drivable when you first start a cold engine.

Most anything will do that will service an older GM power steering pump, as , of course, that's what they are.
Enjoy,

Always a matter of opinion, but Dot 3 has worked for me for years. These are street cars, not race cars, so a higher boiling point unnecessary.

Re: tyre pressure
One trick is to keep relatively fresh rubber O rings to hold up exhaust. Also, after replacing them, tie them up in the middle with a small tie wrap. Keeps them from slipping off, and gets you just a tinny bit more clearance. I use 215 /70/15 on my car for years...never a problem.

Re: Oil Pressure Advice
Always figure one lbs. of oil pressure, for every 100 rpm's. Also, replace , certainly in a V12, the Smiths electric sender and gauge, with a mechanical Smiths set up. Easy, and accurate.

Re: Longest owned ... just a bit fun
I bought mine in April of 1974, a leftover '73. Every dealer in America had 10 to 20 E's...could not sell a V12 during the gas crisis. I didn't care.....Jag announced 1974 would be the last in the US, so I ran to the bank. Just had to have one, but was not fond of the huge rubber bumpers on the 1974...

Re: sound of the v12
Try this...I have run it this way for years, with pleasant results. Remove rear silencer (under trunk), store it as far back in your garage as possible, so you wont be tempted to put the dumb, rust prone, ugly thing, back on the car. Now simply drive to your nearest muffler shop, and have them build...

Re: lowering seat height
Hi. I am 6'3 , and have had my '73 since new. I am very comfortable in it, because I made a few mods. You will have to remove the seat tracks.( I assume you will be the only one driving, so not a problem, and take some seat foam out from the bottom). Place seat as far back as possible, leaving room ...

Listen to Marek...he is about as knowledgeable on E-types as they come, especially Series 3. He is spot on regarding Bar's....it will eventually clog up your radiator....stay away.
