Gulf Classic 20-50 mineral oil
I have used several brands of this oil in my Jaguars over the last 35 years. Recently Iwas convinced that the Gulf oil with extra high level of zinc additive (more in the 5L metal cans than in the 4L plastic cans) is even better for our engines. I have now used it for the 2 most recent oil changes. ...

Re: no keys for door locks
I never lick the doors of my old cars. The occasional hour(s) that I leave the car unattended, I prefer a thief to open the doors without damaging chrome, paint/metal and glass.
And I never have anything valuable inside.

Re: Engine stalls after 3-5 secs (and has very sooty plugs)
The carbs are in very good shape. New jets in August and minor adjustments when using Colortune. Ran very well, but I foolishly increased the richness following a 2-3 CO reading, but only to 5.5 which is what these engines need to run well.
Very confusing

Engine stalls after 3-5 secs (and has very sooty plugs)
Can an excessively rich mixture cause this??? I see in the car’s Blue book that I increased the the CO level from 3 to 5,5 using my nearby garage’s tester, following a brake fluid change. Next time out, a week later, the engine stalled when warming up. Yesterday I had a bad drive with lots of starts...

I had this problem on a 420G about 15 trs ago. Trying to remember the solution....
In the meantime, I see that SNG has 2 versions of the 3AW ”can”. Don´t get the difference, besides the that they say one is suitable for cars with a remote regulator...!?!??

Play in the steering wheel
I have changed the 2 (original felt) bushes between inner and outer steering column, but on one or two cars it is the splined connection onto which we secure the steering wheel, after adjusting the lateral position, that remains less than firm after tightening the adjustment knob. I asked SNG, and t...

Re: OT - Vibration and crankshaft damper on Mark IX
On my Mk9, I had a hard to trace metallic noise which kicked in at 1500, whether driving or parked in N. It was very hard to determine the source, even with my stethoscope. When the car was with CMC they found it to be at the bottom end of the downpipes, I think, and difficult to locate. This was a ...

Another dumb question, but the wheel looks like it has been pushed forward at the rim. Nice and even job, but looks odd. Perhaps just a photo angle issue, or was this rhe shape of the early CTB wheels? I doubt it...

Re: Mangoletsi wire throttle upgrade
Was this problem ever solved?
(that when I let go of the gas pedal, the engine falls to perhaps 1500 (or more) but nowhere near the 7-800 rpm). I put my foot under the pedal and pull it towards me, and that will bring it down a bit, towards 1200 perhaps.
Everything is set up correctly.

Re: 1966 Series 1 2+2 - are Borrani wheels better than stock?
I agree with David, but use original spinners which I have had rechromed. I think the engraving in the Borranis are too thin.
5 or 5,5" with 185 XVS. Brilliant.
6" with 205 XWX loks great but the steering is a little heavier.

"Replaced the prop"..?
Are new ones available and good?
What about sending the prop off for balancing, with new UJs? Even though the old weight is still in place and the arrows align (when the prop has two halves as on the Mk10 where I have this problem)

What needles do the SUs have after the overhaul? I had the same problem, but at 3.000rpm It turned out that the standard UM needles don´t work eell with non standard air filters. I bought and mounted OM needles (an easy job), and the engine now pulls all the way to 5,000 even under load on a long up...

Re: Wheels or spinners at fault?
I will begin by verifying the shims against the bearings. On another E I have about 90-95% tightness but on this one perhaps 80%. They should not be 100% tight.

Wheels or spinners at fault?
I have had the MWS wheels on this E for a few years, with new spinners marked Made in England. All ok until today when I had a new vibration which went away when I pressed the clutch at about 50 MPH. With the rear wheels in the air, I coild feel the wheels not being rock steady on the hubs. I read r...

Webcon solution: status?
I ordered the kit from Trigger Wheels and got stuck with the hardware issue for mounting the "distributor". The wheel was wrong as well, but Trigger Wheels said they would exchange this. I have not done anything for 6 weeks on this issue on this particular car. But just read about the Webcon solutio...
