Re: Calling all Opalescent Gunmetal owners
Overdrive? Overdrive? Not me Pete. Others may try. I did have one on my Dolomite (first car) and it was the only part of the engine and drivetrain that didn't break down. But I'm very happy with my standard E type box thank you Sorry Jeremy, it was Julian AKA Cactusman. Jezzer, Jules, same differen...

Re: Calling all Opalescent Gunmetal owners
The colour may match but the metal particles won't settle in the same way so it reflects light differently. . Does it match the colour of the overdrive casting you have squeezed into your FHC and for which some of us are still awaiting pix to encourage/discourage attempts at the same alchemy? As yo...

Re: OIL COOLER FOR 4.2 OVERALL TEMP AND OIL
It sheds heat so it contributes to cooling, but is not really necessary unless your temp runs hot during your kind of driving. Ideally you should run an oil thermostat to prevent overcooling. Remember it's in some senses the opposite to the water cooling system. Oil gets hottest at high speed and re...

Re: Lost my bearings
Yes the nut and pressing fit as far as my memory goes. The pressing replaces the castellations, so works with a plain nut, but I think the nut and bearings are the same from Series 3 XJ (1979?) up to the end of X300/X305 production in 1996.

Re: Lost my bearings
Nothing wrong with standard setup used on every Jag until 1996. They only swapped to deep groove cartridge type ball bearings to cut servicing costs during warranty period and because tight tolerances were needed to prevent tram-lining once they started using 18” or bigger wheels. Many parts became ...

Free (sorta) X-Type diesel estate Cheltenham area
Due to circumstances beyond my control, an otherwise pleasant Jaguar independent workshop in Cheltenham has not been able to return my 2008 X-type to me in time for my return flight from Heathrow to Washington on Sunday 6th Feb. The plan was for Marek to keep the car until my return in mid July. I c...

Re: SII - Front Suspension
Thanks for the advice. Everything loosened off and ready for a 2nd attempt!! Cheers, John C Merely lowering the car onto its wheels won't be enough to set the ride height correctly and it will remain slightly high. You will need to roll the car to and from a few times to allow the tyre contact patc...

Re: Engine seized after rebuild?
Ten starts of a few minutes each is not long enough to get such a heavy engine hot enough to displace all corrosive condensation. Nevertheless, you would have to be very unlucky to suffer a corrosion related seizure - although Mahle pistons are tightest fit of any alloy pistons I’ve ever read about ...

Re: Source for 5/16" Convertible Top Frame Rivets
Finding UK rivet suppliers is not exactly the world’s toughest detective job. Since you are missing a few you can even use the holes to figure out an original or oversize shank diameter.
