Re: S1 Front Brake Caliper strip and plating

Must be a way! Seems a waste to plate all the parts on the suspension and then use caliper paint on the the part most easily seen outside the car through the wheels. Anyone tried brush on zinc plating? How do the firms do it when they rebuild and re sleeve them? guess I had better ask them https://w...

S1 Front Brake Caliper strip and plating

67 S1 4.2 Hi, 1st front caliper apart. Bore looks nice and clean. Maybe resleeved. Seals are in very good condition and tempted to reuse them I wanted to to have all four zinc plated along with the stub axles. How do I strip out the pins in the centre of the caliper body and is plating ok if they ha...

Re: Moving on. Bike resto

Hi Paul, Yes, the TR6C came from Classic Superbikes. I fitted Boyer ignition. No major issues. Seems to run and ride fine. Still getting used to the right hand gear change. Got the Norton off e-bay when the bad weather set in so not even ridden it yet. Those kwacker triples were king of the road in ...

Re: LHD S1 4.2 Master Cylinder Reaction Valve orientation

Thanks Paul. That's where i guessed it was. Luckily both Master cylinder and servo had been previously re-sleeved so hopefully should be fine when I refit them with the rebuild kits added. Only thing is....while the pedal box is out would be a good time to de-rust the drivers side bulkhead and the f...

Re: master cylinder assembly diagram

Hi Bill, You are right. I just never seem to have the right threaded connectors lying around to do this. But yes, ideal way to do it with no chance of damage. I saw someone on a video use an old master cylinder bolted to a bench pumping it out which is also neat if you need to do a few of these. On ...

Re: master cylinder assembly diagram

Main piston removal... Followed the excellent you tube video above. Confirmed the correct bearing and seal order (instructions with the SNG rebuild kit showed it incorrectly) I used an M6 rawlbolt as suggested in the you tube clip. This failed as it kept slipping out. Failed moving it with an air gu...

On the home straight

Taking the bend out of the lower Radiator frame.
Little Fin straghtener from E-Bay worked really well

Re: Brake master Cylinder Leak. Options?

Thanks Joe, Useful information on the cheaper M/C and servo. Yes it will sit for long periods. No history on the car at all- came from a dealer in LA a couple of years ago. No evidence yet of any brake components swapped in. Good advice too on the Silicon fluid. I replaced all the brakes on my 68 Ca...

Re: Removing silt and limescale from radiator

Hi there, Quick uodate... Soaked in 5l of white vinegar, drained out and refilled a couple of times leaving the sediment. About 7 days total. It did disolve out more than I thought and some sediment collected https://i.postimg.cc/76d28Xgg/P1070051.jpg Flushed out with boiling water afterwards Mixed ...

Brake master Cylinder Leak. Options?

Hi there, Just when I thought i was out of the woods with the cooling system refresh... 67 S1. Brake master cylinder leaking from the piston onto the floor. These are the steps/options. Comments welcome. Strip out the master cylinder and piston and inspect the bore. If pitted, replace with a new m/c...

Re: Removing silt and limescale from radiator

Hi Steve, Thanks for your input but would like to just continue this thread with the guys who have used the various media to descale a radiator on the bench. I don't want to use a radiator specialist (I have 4 other classics that may need this at some point/ I like doing things myself/not too keen o...

Re: Removing silt and limescale from radiator

Tipped out the vinegar today- it was a bit cloudy and some sediment came uot too but not a great deal. I didn't flush it. From the tops of the cooling matrix I could see, there was still some kind of scale- was soft so maybe it'll flush out. I have ordered a bottle of Kilrock. Have refilled the rad ...

Re: Removing silt and limescale from radiator

Hi,
Progress so far.
Tipped just under 5 litres of this vinegar neat into the rad.
Been there a couple of days so far but does't seem to be much going on.

Do I just need to be patient?

Re: Removing silt and limescale from radiator

Thanks Julian and Chris,
I googled a bit and it seems that vinegar is slightly stronger so may try that 1st.

I have collected about 6 litres so far from my de-humidifier...getting there!

Thx

Removing silt and limescale from radiator

Hi, S1 4.2 Rad is out and on the bench. Its old but seems sound. While it is on the bench Ideally I would like to place it with the inlet/outlet pipes upmost and fill with some kind of descaler and leave for a few days to soak then flush out with water. Any suggestions of what to use? Thanks Eddie h...
