Re: Series 1.5 4.2L backfiring under load with new 123 distributor

I have the same 123 as you, non bluetooth, and use curve 2. SNG use curve 5, but that advances a lot more than standard. Mine runs well on 2. Potential problem though - when you install the 123, you set it up by rotating until the light goes out? or comes on? Anyway, that is quite critical and mine ...

Re: Best engine oil??

I've used all the classic 20/50s, no problems, all seem to do the same job. That's on 40,000 miles of driving. I've used Millers, Halfords, valvoline, Castrol, Comma - I really don't think it matters that much. My engine still ticks over at 30 lbs pressure and runs at over 50 when really hot at anyt...

Hi Malcolm,
Thanks and funnily enough I barely fit in 860005!
Slowly trying to shed weight so I don't look a complete fool squeezing in and exploding out!
I'd do a straight swap for it with my 2+2 which would give you more room!

Re: Back hatch cable - info please!

Thanks, but I’ve tried pushing it up from inside and it’s definitively locked. I also tried pushing down on it firmly.
Pretty sure the cable is unattached

Re: Back hatch cable - info please!

Thanks andrew, I’ll have a good look when I get home from France on Sunday. Meanwhile, I’ll carry on heaving the luggage over the back seat!
Does the chrome handle just lever out with screwdrivers, or do you twist/screw it out?

Back hatch cable - info please!

So, on tour in my 2+2.
Suddenly, can’t open the boot (back hatch)
The silver lever is just loose, so the cable has obviously detached from either the latch end or the silver handle
How do you access anything??
Can’t get in the boot other than over the seats
Ideas?

Re: New member

I suppose it depends what you're towing. A caravan would be a no-no for me (having done it with many cars) but if you're just towing a small trailer with equipment, then maybe ok. I saw an E Type at the Faversham show that was towing the rear half of another E Type (FHC) which was used to stow equip...

Re: How hot should it run

I'm a bit worried about the OP's statement that his bonnet gets "way too hot to touch"
As everyone said above, it is a big hot old lump under the bonnet, but I must say that my bonnet doesn't get that hot. And I've got stainless steel pipes from the block down, so gets hotter than cast ones?

1.6G in corners with a street 911? I think your G meter needs calibration.
Maybe not - I've got a street F type (V6 S) and at Goodwood, I record 1.2 G, and I'm not a super fast racer

Re: OIL AND DIP STICK

I just bought a felt dipstick washer from SNG

There is an issue on the site where if you put your specific model in (like 2+2) it doesn't show up! But they stock it. I phoned them and the guy told me how to view it by searching without a specific model, and there it was. Suggest you ring them.
