'See them in the net and all forums' ! But also you have to think about, if you have acted correct. Sometimes both people make mistakes in a "deal". I have mounted correctly-configured ported vacuum advance from the front carb at my V12 6,0. Zero vac at idle, high vac at low throttle and low vac at full throttle. If I disconnect the vac from the distributor, I don't have pinking , when suddenly pressing the pedal to floor. I have checked with a ...

The XJ12 serie III with the 5,3 HE-motor would have also this problem, if he would not have a system with some "plastic boxes" in the pipe system between induction system and vacuum box of the distributor. One of theses "boxes" called "dump valve", shall reduce the vacuum quicker. At my car this is ...

"The vac advance is effectively irrelevant to performance or pinking if working correctly, since it is automatically disabled under those conditions that cause pinking." I believe this is not 100% correct. I have an EV12 with a 6,0 L motor from a '93 XJ81, equipped with the 4 original stromberg car...

1. If there would be a small air-hole in the system, the idle would be worse than driving at part throttle. The lower the "throttle" the worse would the motor run. 2. He said, that the colortune test-sparks showed a good colour. At all 12 cylinders ? If the mixture at iddle at all 12 would be okay, ...

Hello Simon! Maybe ( ? ? ?) the problem is caused by a lean mixture. If you turn all 4 carb-needles 2 or 3 full turns higher, the mixture will be less lean. If the problems have disappeared, it (maybe? ? ?) was a problem of lean mixture. I don't believe, that your problem is caused by lean mixture, ...

"I often wonder what fuel consumption figures you would get by putting a contemporary engine in a 1960's car. The above picture graphically illustrates how vehicles have grown in stature and probably weight over the years." The weight of a modern car is higher, but the cw ("wind draw") of an old ca...

I have an E-type V12 6,0 with a 2,88 diff and a Getrag 5-Gear. This combination works very well. Maybe the first gear of the original jag-gearbox with a 2,88 diff would be a little bit "long".

Be careful to believe, that you can detect detonation by hearing the "pinks". High-speed detonation is much more dangerous for the motor, than typical pinking. High-speed detonation can not be heard so easy. If you set your ignition, that there is no pinking, still the motor can have high-speed deto...

A friend of me has done this often with the cars of his customers. He never told me, that he is changing the needles.
I would dismount all emission-stuff and drive the car. If the electrodes of your sparks are not all white, I think the needles are okay.
