Re: The 5 Speed is here……..
Looking good Joey. That E type of yours is fantastic. Dont forget the engine goes backwards and forward quite a lot on an E type, useful to know for fitting the reaction plate. I was thinking of you the other day in France. Loads of GT40s at the Le Mans Classic. The 2005 ish ones look good value in ...

Alain de Cadenet RIP
Alain de Cadenet was a very interesting Jaguar Enthusiast so I thought it worth mentioning on the forum that he passed away recently. This is one of his best films about the more interesting Jaguar cars, worth watching again even if you have seen it before. RIP Alain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Re: The 5 Speed is here……..
Joey, I have found the reaction plate can be difficult to remove unless you slide the whole engine and gearbox forward an inch or 2 to create some clearance. Then its easy. Same when refitting it. If the engine and gearbox are too far back, you will be whacking everything with hammers for ages with ...

The "cheat " is to mask it off and use and aerosol can of normal automotive paint.

Got to agree with Joey, those Michelins are great.

Re: Pirelli CN 12-205 70 15 on S1, any feedback?
Very confusing. The 2022 XWX is a modern tyre and very different from a 1969 XWX! It just looks old in terms of profile. It might look old, but it gives modern performance as Joey says. The sidewalls are just rigid enough not to mess up the e type suspension and give good comfort. I think what you a...

Re: e type valuation
A RHD S2 FHC is quite a rare car for 1970. With a V5 in that condition I would say £15-20k. Looks like it needs the works. Restoration costs for most people, would exceed the finished value so the demand is really for those wanting a project. I would not auction it, otherwise you will end up selling...

Re: Coolant in footwell
You could always just bypass the heater! That takes a few minutes. As David says, it could be coming from the heater valve O ring. The is quite accessible on the outside of the bulkhead. I leaking heater matrix would be a relatively easy fix, but I think the leak would be visible around the heater b...

Re: Calling all Opalescent Gunmetal owners
I would say my OSG car must be the same color as yours Peter, from your picture. The paint shop told me years ago there is a light shade and a dark shade for OSG. I have sprayed out both and the dark shade is substantially darker, a bit more like Gunmetal, but not the same. Matching it has been easy...

Re: Problem for your deliberation
I think David could be right, although I had exactly the same thing symptoms on a S1 which turned out to be restricted fuel delivery caused by an internally corroded fuel line. The poor fuel pump could only just provide enough fuel for the car to start and idle. It would then drive for 10 minutes th...

Re: Works time estimates - indicative
Well, you are all correct. Ill have to post some speedy videos! Old cars are unpredictable. Yes that engine was all fresh and nothing needed checking, and I had a helper to lift the head! He wasn't very happy about it though if I recall. It can all go equally as wrong though, I will admit - it often...

Re: Works time estimates - indicative
I can tell no one believes I can get a head off in an hour. I will have to make a video next time! I removed the head with the manifolds attached, two of us lifting it off with the bonnet still on.on. I was lucky enough to be able to refit the cam sprockets to the cams on the bolts as I had wired th...

Re: Works time estimates - indicative
Depends on your level of experience, knowledge and skill. Who knows what that is? - Only you. It is a relatively simple car mechanically, the main skill required is bodywork with restorations. If the body is good, then everything else is straight forward. Its not like their is anything complicated-l...

Re: 4.2 engine sleeving
The last time I had one re-sleeved was last month. The liners were around £20 each. It made sense because the block had been taken out too much and was over-size and I had an excellent set of standard pistons. John Everard did it. No dramas. Scotts latest video shows an interesting way of fixing the...

Maybe Part labelled no 9 on the diagram is missing?
This stops the pedal rising too high.

Leaks form the sender and fuel supply panels on the top of the tank should be obvious with the boot floor removed, especially when the tank is full. They are actually positioned slightly below the highest point of the tank if you look. If fuel is leaking anywhere from the tank, you should see drople...

Re: FHC window frame
Why dont you see if a piece of glass will slide freely up and down inside the frame?
If it does, then I would be tempted to fit the frame and glass in the door and see it it will shim up ok.
