Re: How hot should it run
See if you can borrow an IR temp gun gauge and see what the temps really are. The exhaust side will be too hot.to touch after a.drive..

Re: How hot should it run
70 degrees while driving sounds ok so long as the gauge is correct. On a hot day the bonnet will be hot, especially on the exhaust side...

Re: Esso E5 Ethanol Free to end
If they are old ones...not well. New ones from Burlen should be OK. I just rebuilt mine but changed the jets 6\7 years back as one was leaking and the ones that came out looked ok..
Re: I'm back

Re: Esso E5 Ethanol Free to end
No significant pollution gain I agree with. Although ethanol is a greener fuel than petrol. It has a marginally lower energy density than octane but the research octane no of pure ethanol is 108.6 so in terms of knock resistance it's better than pump fuels. As to gaskets etc....no gaskets or rubber ...

Re: Rev counter behaving badly
If your tacho operates directly from the generator on the cam as per the original design then for the tacho to work all it needs is the two wires to the generator. No connection to ground is required. If this is your tacho configuration then the ignition system probably isn't the issue . Either ther...

Re: Great service & rubbish products
Didn't see the previous post Steve...but whether or not they are blow molded in one piece there is an obvious seam on all the ones I've bought, and not just SNG. It's the seam where they split. Suggests the seam is the weak point and indicates a poor mold at best...and it's not just me with bottles ...

Re: Great service & rubbish products
Interesting to note that the plastic one supplied by SNG actually mentions the strengthened insert in the spigott tube to "prevent splitting". Julian Barratt.if you read this...it.doesnt! I've had 3+ let go in the past ten years and all split either On the sharp radius curve where the spigot becomes...

You could get them zinc plated...it's the std replacement for cadmium where cad plating is no longer permitted (or is prohibitively expensive)..

Re: Esso E5 Ethanol Free to end
Just to be clear...ethanol does not corrode copper or brass fuel fittings....if it did then your scotch whisky distilleries would be changing their still regularly...they don't, and your scotch would contain copper...it doesnt!!! Sorry gtjoey but at the temperature in fuel lines even E10 will have n...

Re: Great service & rubbish products
It can be done but isn't easy. You will need to Jack the engine up a little. One side at a time. DO NOT JACK ON THE SUMP! Block of wood right up to the engine block. You only need to lift an inch of two. If you buy new mounts from the "usual" supplier be aware that the bolt on the top of the new one...

Re: Rev counter behaving badly
If it worked.ok beforehand then I'd suspect the wiring to the tacho and not the tacho itself in the first instance..if it's driven as per original from the generator on the cam then there are only two wires between the two...I reckon it has been modified in some way and the new loom, as you say, doe...
I'm back
Hi all...not new but for various reasons took a break from the forum. However not from the E...it went off the road in Feb for the long promised engine rebuild and is probably a week away from running once more....now with a result engine and gear box...and a working overdrive...not a.trivial projec...
