S1 tool kit
Knowing just how much these cost these days - if you want an original one - what would you recommend to a new owner for his car? I'm not talking concours, just a simple AF tool roll of good quality up to I suppose 13/16th for the banjos, but including all the usual necessary everyday items, but not ...

No mention of Blockleys? Been wearing them for two years since the Michelins wore out and it felt like I had fitted power steering, they were so light. Very cheap compared to the major makes, and they hold the road well in rain and in shine. http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u216/lynxd67/E-type%20r...
Another plus for BAS. They want the car to fit it and take a day, but the result is superb. Drove through a storm an a slight leak at the head rail (but they all do anyway which is why I carry duct tape) and only a drop or two on the sill. http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u216/lynxd67/E-type%20reb...

Kelsey Hayes servo seal
When the E-type was rebuilt we couldn't find one and thought them extinct so put the rather battered old one back between the bulkhead and the servo. Found a new one the other day for under ?8 from David Manners. A slight difference in size after over 20 years! http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u21...

Had an interesting conversation today about these pumps, and it seems that there were a batch that had a peculiar problem, so if it happens to you send it back and they'll replace it with a new one. Apparently the petrol climbed up the inside of the wire sheath by capillary action and caused a big s...

I have the same dilemma myself, but the more I think about it the more I have decided to stick with the traditional antifreeze. My concerns are naturally the cost involved (including the extra water repellent to flush out any water from the system first) and the need to always carry some in the boot...

I had the same problem about 15 years back and didn't know there were different ratios for the angle drive. I'm seeming to recall 1:1 and 1.25:1 but I could be wrong. Anyway, having in the end got the right one to my cost the inner cable snagged and broke it. I'd advise a new inner to go with the co...

I know of a few people who have put the Moss O/D box into a S3 E-type which is the same as a 2+2 as far as this subject is concerned. It obviously means shortening the propshaft and in 1974 we toured France with my flat floor and a V12 roadster so converted. I drove it, and with a 2.88 axle ratio I ...

BBQ manifolds!!
Here's an interesting one for people who are thinking of re-enamelling their manifolds. I have had a very interesting conversation with someone today who baulked at the price of about ?250 for the pair and instead painted them with shiny BBQ high temperature paint. He has assured me that it works an...

I stripped my car last autumn and the first thing I did was to order a new set from Uryk. These frames rust from the inside out and crack around the welds and mine were over 25 years old. For about ?2,000 a no-brainer for me. my safety is worth the ?2,000. And if yours is a S1 car then you should at...

Somewhat of a thorny problem and the answer can be expensive. In the end I bit the bullet and went here:-

Having had them modify the radio for FM etc. the speakers need to be able to take the higher wattage output.

I thought that I'd let you all know that I finally found a pair in January. In fact, I was staying with a dear friend and mentioned the issue, knowing he also loves his Jaguars and has a 1961 fixed head. He disappeared then came back with a used pair which he kindly gave me. It would appear that I o...
