Re: Dunlop,or Avon
The Dunlop SP's are original fitment and I have used no others in my nearly 50 years of ownership, the last set being fitted four years ago, so I can't compare to other makes. Have a look at 'Longstone classic tyres'. I believe they have a short video that compares the tyre makes for the E-Type. Che...

Re:
If you are going to fit a 5 speed box then why sacrifice all that torque (from a 3.31 diff) when you can simply fit a lower ratio 5th gear and have the best of both worlds ? The earlier S3's had 3.31 diffs but they changed in Jan 73 to 3.07 diffs as standard. The S3 is a really quick car off the li...

Re: Loss of Self Centring Steering
When my car was returned to me after re-commissioning I had the same problem. I moved the caster angle to maximum as per the Jaguar specs and it improved a great deal. However, it is still not as it was and I wonder if the problem lies within the steering column, which had been removed. Something I ...

Re: S3 OTS Brakes
Phillip. Thank you for that. It would seem that you are right, but I’ll do what Barry suggests first. Barry. Sorry, I wrote ‘transfer valve’ when it should have been ‘reaction valve!’ Yes, I kind of suspected that the problem was with that valve. Thank you for the ‘Eagle’ tip, very useful and seemin...

Re: S3 OTS Brakes
Thanks Phillip. So you think that the problem lies in the master cylinder? Could you enlarge on that for me? I thought the problem might be the transfer valve, but I am not sure how it works. Russ, I don’t know if your offer of calipers and discs was meant for me. However, my calipers were refurbis...

S3 OTS Brakes
My S3 braking system was professionally mechanically 're-commissioned' three years ago with recon servos, new vacuum tank, new master cylinder, lines, pads etc. Just recently, after a week or so not used, on the first brake application it seems that the rear brakes operate seconds before the front b...

Re: Problem with horn on Moto Lita steering wheel
I would suspect that the superglue is acting as an insulator.
Soldering is not hard to do, the main thing is to have the surfaces clean and use a flux.
You will need a soldering iron of course .... is there no-one you could ask to help?
Cheers

I realised that Chris, but I can always live in hope!
I find it somewhat disappointing when someone posts a problem and then doesn't follow up with how it was resolved.

Re: gearbox woe
However once we got going it became apparent that 3rd wasnt going to join in the fun. Try as I might without being too brutal I just could not get 3rd. I just had to go from 2nd to 4th.
What was the problem with that third gear?

Hello Michel
I am so sorry, the PO seems to have removed the pully before I received the engine!
I DID tell him that I was only interested in the EFI components .......
Again, my apologies .

Re: Crankshaft Pulley
Hi Michel
I bought a V12 engine from an XJ12 HE in order to use the EFI bits to convert my series 3 to fuel injection.
Would the pully from this spare engine be the one you need?
I will send you a photograph later on today, when I am back home .....
Regards

Re: From 4 to 5 Speed , but Which one ?
Elite's problem laid with its manager at the time, a Rob Swift, who left a few years ago and was replaced by Ben. Elite is a subsidiary of Beagle engineering, a large and well equipped machine shop, whose owner is Mark Bloor. Mark has engineering in his genes and spends most of his time on the large...

Re: From 4 to 5 Speed , but Which one ?
Elite racing transmissions, Stoke on Trent, UK, will build and provide a five speed Tremec T5 gearbox. I have one in my S3 OTS and it is very good, changes well and is not noisy, a common complaint. You can specify the ratio of the fifth gear, I chose .63 which gives me a quiet and comfortable cruis...

Fabulous! A colour change from original but was that a new bonnet? If so, why? The original white one looked ok.
