Re: Front cross member jacking wood

My piece of pine (fairly soft) has survived for decades. I cut it to fit and lined the upper part with heavy felt.

Re: Frustrated by poor quality product

Returning to the original post...craptastic parts... while instaling my new engine bay wiring harness, I had one of the swaged-on bullets come off when I had to remove the wire from the connector to reroute it. This does not instill a lot of confidence in the rest of the harness. I've replaced sever...

I don't get it. It's kinda funny but I still don't get it. Is there going to be something to download somewhere...sometime?

Re: Replacement Harness

I bought an engine compartment harness (and the add-ons) from SNG and am less than thrilled. While it fit fine and looks ok, I was disappointed in the thickness of the wires and that the connectors where swagged on vice being soldered on. This will allow pollutants to creep in over time and cause co...

Re: Engine wiring

I almost forgot....the new harness will have a LOT longer lead to the bonnet plug than is required. Don't go off all half-cocked and solder the plug to the harness before it's test fitted. Mine came from SNG and I've now got to undo all that work, remove many cm of wire then resolder the whole thing...

Re: Engine wiring

Have you installed a fan relay or is that something your figuring out also? Cheers, Rob Hi Rob, I left the fan and horn relays as stock. The alternator relay, voltage regulator, and 3AW warning light gizmo plus the entire alternator harness are now redundant due to a modern Hitachi alternator. I ma...

Re: Engine wiring

I'm doing the same thing right now and started by identifying all connections in the new harness and in the car. I then tagged them all with tape and the nomenclature. It took three separate diagrams to identify all of them and I ensured that they all matched. Only then did I remove the old one and ...

Re: Engine compartment wiring harness replacement. My experiences.

Thanks John. Any idea what it's purpose is? I can't see a reason other than prevention of static build up in the mechanism due to rubber rubbing on glass.

Engine compartment wiring harness replacement. My experiences.

I replaced the engine compartment wiring harness because the PO (me) has left it with 42 years of quickee fixes, a bunch of modifications and additions (none of which where documented), and lots of oil and general wear and tear. I followed the following sequence... 1) all ends on the new harness whe...

Re: Different Diffs

I stuck one in my S 1 1/2 with the 2:88 ratio. With my slightly smaller 185 (modern sizing) tires, I get the same speed in gears as the original size tires with the European 3:07 gears. Over here, most E-Types came with a much higher diff (3:54(?)) for stop light acceleration. I used the newer brake...

Re: Under-Dash, Cabin Harduras, Carpets - a different way ?

Great idea Rory. My interior is getting a spruce up and I'll be incorporating a few of your ideas. An alternative to the magnets or gluing is something I've used for decades...good old Velcro. I use Gorilla glue to attached the hook and pile to the carpet/insulation and the floor. It stays in place ...

Re: Plumbing of pre-oiler.

I cut my teeth as a tech on the Argus (Canadian version of the Brittania, used for long range Maritime patrol). While we didn't pre-oil, we would dilute some oil with avgas prior to start below a certain temperature. One person would be on a headset with the flight engineer and would count the engin...

Plumbing of pre-oiler.

Installing a pre-oiler has been a dream of mine for the 41 years I've owned my baby. After reading the forums of a diesel enthusiast's site, I ordered a Flojet 2100 agricultural pump ( http://store.waterpumpsupply.com/fldepu21260p.html ). These folks plumb them into their oil systems with great succ...

New member - long time owner.

I've had the pleasure (and responsibility) of having had stewardship of my S 1 1/2 OTS for 41 years. She's been driven all over Canada as I dragged her around during my 41 year career with the RCAF (cue the RCAF marchpast as an ancient Argus (Britannia to you folks) thunders overhead). I make my own...
