Perhaps all they could get hold of at short notice. The production team obviously just thought "1961; E type; that will do"

Hi! Can't help you I'm afraid, but just wanted to say welcome. Just got my first one last week.
You said it's a 1990 - obviously a typo? What year is it,and what model?

Ah! Thanks! I was trying to get the chrome shoulder off too, rather than just the knob! Done it now - I know the gear knob isn't original, but I think it looks nice, The growler in the middle of the knob matches my steering wheel one exactly, and I haven't seen that elsewhere. http://i749.photobucke...

Help with gear knob removal please

My gear knob on my series 2 2+2 is worn, so got a nice new one. But can't get the old one off! Am I trying to remove just the knob, or the tapered chrome bit underneath? Any tips will be gratefully appreciated! Here's a picture of it: http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx132/malcolmsykes/e%20type%20...

Thanks both of you! I like it. I'm just over 6ft 1in tall, and the extra 2 inches headroom gives me a better fit than the other models. And being 9 inches longer, I can get more golf gear in! I'm still jealous of the look of an OTS when the hood is down though. Mind you, the webasto roof gives you a...

Pics of my new car

I introduced my self a while back, but have only just been able to collect my car so couldn't share any pics. Just before I collected, the clutch which I had been suspicious of started to slip, so they fitted a new one for free. The flywheel was a tiny bit marked, so they had that skimmed. After a fe...

Help with headlining please

Still waiting to pick up my series 2 2+2, but should be getting it this coming week. I know the headlining is saggy, but I also know that I'll mess things up if I try to replace it! Does anyone know a good (but hopefully reasonably priced) trimmer in the Essex area, preferably near chelmsford? I've ...

Hi paydase, and welcome to the forum. I am very new myself, and am still waiting to collect my car! I am due to go to North Yorkshire this Sunday to pick it up. It is a white series 2 2+2. I was due to collect it last weekend, but they confirmed the clutch was worn so are replacing it (at their expe...

Can't answer your question I'm afraid, but would point out that the extra 20BHP mainly came from the new cam, but they also fit bronze valve guides, cut and lapped valve seats, and generally finish the head to "concours standard" - so a few other little tweeks.

Thanks for all the replies! Good to know there are a few others nearby. STILL waiting to get mine - I was due to collect it last weekend, but I'd queried the clutch and they confirmed (reluctantly) that it was on it's last legs. So they're putting a new clutch in for me, and I'll hopefully be collec...

Answer from Rob Beere on Cams

I posted a question about "SU upgrade spec cams" as fitted to the car I'm picking up shortly. I've spoken with Rob Beere now and got an answer, which I thought others may find interesting, so I'm posting it as a separate thread here, as well as a reply on my original thread - hope that's ok! (Forgiv...

Spoke to Rob Beere about this cam now. Apparently it is a small performance increaser, specifically designed for those who retain SUs rather than go to Webers or similar. They said that if you increase cam duration, you lose idle and some torque, so this cam just increases lift rather than duration....

Thanks for the reply and info. I don't have much experience driving e types, so can't really compare. It does seem to have plenty of low down torque, but only comparison will tell if it's as much as other 4.2's. I think you're right in that overall, manufacturers know best. I've dropped Rob Beere an...

SU Spec cams?

I have a 1969 4.2 litre series 2, 2+2. When I say I have it, I pick it up next weekend. Looking through the paperwork, I see that the cylinder head was overhauled by Rob Beere Racing in 2010. I contacted Rob Beere, and they confirmed that they did the work, and that they fitted "Upgraded SU spec cam...

Thanks for the reply Neil. I will post some pics, but I don't pick it up until end of next week as it's having a service, new M.O.T etc before I collect it. I'll take some photos and post them then. Must say I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas now! I did try a series one that had lowish bucket s...
