I shall be very interested to see the statutory provisions ( either Act of Parliament or Statutory Instrument) which decrees that there is an age limit of 5 years on tyres . Perhaps someone can enlighten me

I have had a 4.2 litre 3.07 with the EJ close ratio box for 15 years. It is quite delightful with the high second gear being wonderful for overtaking. There is no shortage of torque to pull these high ratios with the 4.2, and the 3.8 still should have no difficulty

The timing marks do not settle this problem because with the pointer at TDC on the damper it can relate to either no 1 ( rear) or 6 ( front) firing. Just to be clear about the tag : it does not have the decimal ratio stamped on , but has the number of teeth on each component . Thus it will say 43/14 for 3.07 ; 43/13 for 3.31 ; and ( I think ) 46/13 for 3.54. It is usually attached one of the bolts to the backplate of the final drive unit
