Re: Seat runner mountings
Hi Darren I did exactly what Geoff suggests. I punched holes in the Hardura so that the packers sit directly on the floor pan. I say packers plural because I fitted a packer under the mushrooms as well. That's what was shown on the IPC diagram I looked at. And don't do what I did. On the first seat ...

Hi Chris
Give Bresco a ring tomorrow. I'm positive they'll give you a definitive answer.

Re: Luggage board pegs/pins BD10958
Hi Chris These people stock a wide range of this sort of hardware. As well as the pins, I think they stock the captive nuts as well. https://www.bresco.com/acatalog/Latches_and_Studs.html I spoke to them once and they were very knowledgeable. Also, these people may be able to help https://www.segalm...

I thought I'd just post a couple of pics of the clutch cover from my car that failed after less than a mile. The manufacturer appears to be AP. I sincerely hope that nobody else reading this has had a similar failure, but if they have perhaps contact me? https://i.postimg.cc/xjKbHNNM/IMG-7527.jpg ht...

Re: Many thanks to Angus
Hi Barry I found it totally incomprehensible how a firm as experienced as VSE could have failed to identify the weak head stud thread whilst the engine was stripped in their workshop particularly as is a well known weakness in these 4.2 ltr engines. And I think I'm right in saying that they had over...

Re: Many thanks to Angus
Hi Mark Likewise your jam jar. Odyssey Red Metallic was not a 1970 colour. I spotted it on a 2017 XE. Mine was Carmen Red when I bought it, and originally Regency Red [and please nobody take offence here] but I felt the car was much better suited to a metallic colour. As you say, the comparison will...

Re: Many thanks to Angus
Hi Mark The exhaust manifolds are, I believe, originals. They were on the car when I bought it, and are in remarkably good original condition. Or to be more precise they were in one of the many boxes of bits that came with the car including a pair of NOS manifolds the I eventually identified as S Ty...

Many thanks to Angus
Many thanks to Angus and everyone at Moss Jaguar for being the salvation of my car. Some may recall that the first time I started my fully overhauled VSE engine, it failed. Weak cylinder head stud thread in the bottom of the block. Engine out again. Got very lucky with a local engine rebuilder who h...

Re: Rear door trim
Hi Steve. Thanks for taking a look in the IPC. I have all the materials to hand, and trimming this top section from scratch had entered my mind. Nice and fiddly, but I've done nice and fiddly before. Because of the average fit of this trim piece, I think its going to foul somewhere round the apertur...

Re: Rear door trim
Hi Steve The lower portion of trim had holes pre punched in the card to accept the standard trim clips, and these lined up perfectly with the holes in the door. The short piece of trim on the LHS just above the latch has prepunched holes that line up with the existing holes in the door. But there ar...

Rear door trim
How does the top part of the rear door trim secure to the door? As usual, a couple of pics would be very helpful. Although sourced from one of the best trimming companies, the trim piece does not seem to fit that well? Perhaps others have found the same? I have never had the original top trim piece ...

Re: Fibre washers on fuel banjos
Hi Jim
This thread ran last year. One thing you can try is soaking the fibre washers in engine oil for a couple of days. That can help apparently?

Re: Auto to Manual Conversion series 2 2+2
Hi Nigel We have no idea how much you know about the conversion that you are contemplating. So I'll ask if you realise that this is fairly major undertaking involving the removal of the engine/transmission unit? Which involves the removal of the bonnet & partial dismantling of the front suspension t...

Re: Rear view mirror
Thanks everyone. I'm most certainly not going to fit a stick on mirror to my car. I thought I'd found a suitable screw on candidate that had come from an early Ford, but the pitch of the mounting holes was different. I'm always very loath to drill holes in a car where there were none originally. I'l...

Rear view mirror
The convex glass rear view mirror pictured came in the myriad boxes of bits with my car. However it has just become apparent to me that it does not belong to my car. So, firstly, does any one know what this may have come off? Also pictured is my header rail complete with 3 holes that I assumed were ...

Re: Cars of the Netflix Crown
If any of you have been watching The Queens Gambit you may have spotted the cool car driven by Beth's friend Jolene. A '65 or '66 Chevy Corvair. When I say cool, I think it became known as a bit of a death trap because of some inherently poor handling characteristics. Nonetheless, the "poor mans Por...

Re: Boot board rail rubbers
Both COH Baines & Woolies sell the rubber insert by the metre. Both good companies to deal with. COHB have a minimum order amount, but I don't think that Woolies do. As a matter of interest, I sourced all of my body seals from COHB, and I found them to be excellent quality.

Re: Rebuilding lsd.
The LSD in my Corvette has to have an LSD additive mixed with the oil. I'm not sure if the Jag diff is the same? Having said that, I know that there is LSD specific oil available which I assume already has an additive mixed in? The Vette diff is in good order, but does creak quite a bit as you pull ...

Bonnet lock handles orientation
If the bonnet lock handle escutcheons are fitted with the slots both facing upwards, then, with the handles locked, both handles point to the right, and I don't think this is correct. I think the handles should face in opposite directions when locked. To achieve this, one plate must be fitted with t...

Hazard Flasher
My hazard's developed a strange defect whereby the system would function correctly, but when switched off, the warning light would remain on but quite dim. With the slightest tap on the side of the flasher unit, the light would extinguish. The unit fitted in the car [in the left of the photo] was I ...
