Re: Reeeeally tempted..
I guess there are not many of these around, let alone for sale. Id travel these miles and listen to the engine- and buy it, if it is not scrap. You will have to go over the engine anyway...
Re: Speeding
Recently, the tolerance was obviously reduced here in Austria, or at least in my home town. We have a 30kph (!) = 19mph speed limit in town, except for specially signed main roads. You get a ticket doing 34, which is still very slow. However, luckily we have many what you call B roads, where you can...

Re: Clutch slave cylinder 'aftermarket' or 'standard'
The original one used to have a circlip to prevent the piston from popping out, which should not happen anyway -theoretically, it happened to me! The last cylinders I ordered from SNG (at 45 EUR) did not have the circlip, but work fine. If I had an original one, I would have resleeved it and restore...

Re: Basic questions when buying an E Type. Question 1
Nothing wrong with a very good Moss box with Redline transmission oil, it gives you a nice feedback and is very rewarding to shift once you have some practice. If you intend to do a lot of long distance high speed touring and you want to retain top performance through the gears, then you might want ...

Re: Steering Wheel
I am 6'1" too and, as already indicated, I adjusted the wheel column as high as possible. Furthermore I cut the seat foam about 3/4" and I put additional washers under the front of the seat slides (double the exising using the rear ones, use longer bolts, needs some detail work). This gives you noti...

Re: Wheel inner arch & floor paint in original S1 3.8
Tadek, if you are going for a car that is to be driven rather than 100% concours, I' d strongly recommend not to use the black stuff on the underside or anywhere else. I did use it in the first instance and found rust developing in some places between panels and coating that became brittle, making i...

Re: Two Black Cables 3.8 Roadster
On my 3.8 the fan relay sits on the rh side (view from drivers seat) under the header tank bracket. On the lh side there is the brake light switch (although spade connectors) . I think the 4.2 has the horns somewhere down there, but again spade connectors.

Re: Speedo failure
On my angle drive, the shaft going into the gearbox broke in two. I dismantled and resoldiered the shorter remains, but that did not work very long (I was told it has to be crimped)- in the end I bought a new one, would recommend that considering the effort of installation.

Re: Vacuum pipes
Peter is right, vacuum is biggest at part throttle (and max at idle), and advance used for fuel economy. Vacuum is immediately lost during acc and not present at wide open throttle.

Re: Early 4.2 FHC RHD Brake Pipe Sizes
A flaring tool needs a straight lenght of 2in for clamping. Straightening and rebending an existing (steel) pipewill be almost impossible, furthermore you lose ca 5mm- this is a lot with brake pipes. I'd go for a set eg from Automec, they are easy to bend and have a clearly numbered fitting instruct...
Re: MPG
I never got a consumption better than 23, now with UE needles it is between 18 and 16. Would also be interesting to hear from other members with non standard setup, eg Heuer

wire wheel rim band
Hi all, having experienced 3 flat tyres in the last weeks (none in 30 years before), I am going to have the rim bands (and remaining tubes) of my wire wheels renewed. I have ordered the bands from MWS. To my surprise they look rather crude, nothing like the "endless" Dunlop original https://i.postim...

30 years ago I fitted a then available original Triplex and it seemed to be too wide and generally not of the perfect shape! It was two man job bending and fitting it
