Hi thats correct i had my original starter reconditioned and managed to get the larger pinion from a jag breaker and sent it away to be rebuilt been fine for 4 years now

Hi just a quick note the early 72 v12 has a different starter motor pinion size to the later etype v12 when i bought my 72 etype it sounded awful when cranking when i fitted a clutch i could see the starter didn't mesh if u have the engine out you can bolt starter on with no gearbox fitted and check...

Hi before going any further u have put petrol in and not diesel to check drain a small amount of fuel out pour it on the floor and leave it to evaporate if its petrol it will evaporate in a matter of minutes if its diesel it will not just a thought good luck

Hi i disagree i compression test for head gasket failure is a total waste of time a small amount of fluid in the bores lifts the compression giving a inaccurate diagnosis anyway ive been in motor trade repairing motor cars successfully for 43yrs what do i know

Hi i fitted 2 manifolds recently i drilled out heat shields and fitted larger diameter bolts To remove manifolds undo engine mount on that side jack up engine be careful not to damage sump and they come out not easy very tight
