Re: oil pressure sender calibration widget
This thread prompted me to do this. https://i.postimg.cc/d3YG0P6L/IMG-20230803-170727164-2.jpg I prised the cap off a sender to see the gubbins inside. This is a bi-metal switch sender. Having reset the contacts using the rotating black plastic adjuster so that the contacts were just apart at no pre...

"Are you planning any work on yours?"
Darryl. No I am not doing anything to the locks. I did have the driver's door lock fail to release some time last year. A good spray with WD40 freed it up.

Re: The crunch of rusty metal parting ......
Cleaned components and a delivery of parts from SNGB today meant I could crack on.... One part to replace was the broken window frame mount. The new bracket didn't quite line up. So I pulled the door cap off (it had been rivetted on - why? It is supposed to be a push fit!) and pulled the window fram...

The inspection........ https://i.postimg.cc/wjx3hgHk/IMG-3940.jpg The glass came out easily, but the rubber seal has seen better days. Evident on the glass is overspray from when the car was tarted up in 2002/3. https://i.postimg.cc/TP6xrcrv/IMG-3941.jpg This looks awful, but it is a mixture of rust...

The crunch of rusty metal parting ......
.....is not a welcome noise. Today it came from the driver's door window regulator. Consequence? The window glass remained in its frame and didn't drop into the door. At least it will be raining tomorrow so I can spend some time in the garage removing the door card to inspect the regulator and glass...

Re: Rev counter behaving badly
I found two things wrong with mine. One was the generator the other was the needle pivot. The generator. The original generator didn't produce a high enough voltage. At first I thought it was because the coil had moved relative to the driven shaft. It had moved, but this wasn't the cause of the poor...

Re: Carpet underfelt and glue
Mine was originally glued. When I pulled it up there was rust underneath. So I cleaned it up and treated it and just laid the underlay back down. Carpet is held by the factory plastic pins. Each year I lift the carpets and underlay and retreat the floors. Never needed to glue them down in 20 years, ...

Goodwood's 75th.
Goodwood’s 75th anniversary continues, this weekend with the 30th Festival of Speed - which is the event which sparked the renaissance of motorsport at Goodwood. Yesterday was the first open day, with cars being set up for practice runs up the hill, and all of the exhibitors getting ready for a busy...

Re: 4.2 Engine cuts erratically
That looks like a Bosch rotor arm as fitted to a 123 dizzie. If it is, note that the life of the 123 dizzie cap and rotor arm is quite short. 30,000 Kms or 18,000 miles. The central electrode in the dizzie cap wears out, and misfiring starts. Replace them both. Check the part numbers on the 123 info...

Re: Oil out of the cam covers
I can't honestly say where the bad belt came from. I can say that if it had been from Barratts Julian would have been on the case immediately. I've used all the usuals, Barratts, Manners, Robeys, SCParts. I've have good parts and bad parts from each and every one. Sometimes, eg oil pressure senders,...

Haven't heard from GTJoey for a while. Coming back into the E-Type fold any time soon Mr Limongelli? You know you want to. A cheaper but equally competent system is offered by Lite Steer. litesteer.com. I've driven a car fitted with this system. It was, however, a S1. I'm sure they will be able to l...

Re: Oil out of the cam covers
Spilt or spat out coolant will leave a greasy residue. Propylene (and Ethylene) Glycol is derived from oil. I had a bad fan belt recently, purchased from one of the usuals. It had a larger profile than normal and didn't sit fully in the pulleys. I imagine that the heat stress caused by only part of ...

Re: Bad oil leak - possibly from Oil Sender/Warning Light Switch(es)?
Someone with better knowledge may chime in, but I thought that early V12s had a separate oil pressure warning light switch low on the LHS of the block, directly over the exhaust pipe. I have known of one other case where this switch fractured sending oil straight onto the exhaust pipe.

Re fuel filters. My home domestic oil heating system dates from the 1960s. The inline fuel filter is identical to the unit on the E-Type. I have a stock of fuel filters bought on line for both applications.
Paper filter and rubber gasket get replaced every time.
