Differential

Hi, Whilst preparing to remove the IRS assembly, i noticed something strange - the diff seems to be permently locked ie both wheels freely rotate backwards and forwards together, but you cannot turn one wheel if the other is held. Am I seeing the effects of the PowerLoc assembly or is there (as I su...

Driveshafts

Hi, I've just stripped down the IRS assembly and have discovered that I different sized driveshafts. This is what they look like: http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab350/Simonp928/stuff/3a26d808595f081feb845c7781e58606.jpg I think that the correct one is the thin one? Anyway, does anyone have one t...

Fascinating insight into the engineering apprenticeship. I felt compelled to go and compare to my original '62 picture frame chassis number stamp and the font looks slighty different - the 7 doesn't have the tiny vertical leading edge line at the top as per the picture of your punches. Not having an...

Christopher/Neil,

Really appreciate your replies - looks like I need to buy two new sockets then, a 1 and 1/8" for the castelated hub nuts and a 1 and 5/16" for the crank pulley :-)

Thanks.

I've tried to measure it and it looks like 1 and 5/16".

Can anyone else confirm this?

Thanks.

Thanks Christopher, much appreciated. I can't easily measure the nut due to how far it is set into the hub :-(

IRS hub nut

Hi,

Can someone kindly let me know what size the hub nuts are on the IRS? My largest socket is 1" and it's too small.

Gone a bit mad on the car over the past couple of weeks - engine/box out, frames off, body tub completely stripped! The only thing left is the rear axle and that should be off this weekend....

Can't wait to start stripping down the engine :-) looks like you have already started??

Hi Jonathan, I've just had a look at mine and it is very slightly different to yours. The difference that I can see is where the long bolt goes through the assembly slightly to the right of the upward pointing hose connection; yours is lightly countersunk, and mine is slighly raised. Oh, and mine is...

Good timing Jonathan - I've just stripped down my wiper mechanism. Once the body and assemblies are cleaned and painted, I will begin testing.

I've also drawn out the circuit diagrams as it is not detailed in the manual!

I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Yes I thought that too; too ldark for Opalescent Silver Blue and to light for Opalescent Dark Blue (I think??). I saw a Series 2 OTS at Brooklands on New Years Day in this same colour - beautiful. Wish I new the colour!

OK, so all this time I have been thinking I have two rear brake pistons in the two MC's - both being just 1". Indeed, all the other reading material I have seen suggests that the longer piston is for the fronts! It's certainly all a lot clearer now. Rory - all this clarification is fantastic, there ...

What a fantastic post Rory - well done! As you know, I have also been pondering the previous explanations about the different size pistons in the two brake master cylinders. I have now had a look at my assembly and can now (thanks to your help) make some observations...... So firstly, your measureme...

Andrew, Mark, thanks for your replies, really appreciated. Andrew, thanks for the detail measurements of the correct firment piston - it may well be easier to get someone with a lathe to make one up. Mark, I will certainly give your recommended contact a call - sounds like good advice to me. Well, m...

I am the proud owner of a full marching numbers 62 FHC that I bought back in August and have started on a full nut and bolt restoration - it will be long project! Anyway, I...
