Steve,
the flywheel is correct, taken directly off a 4.2. The S3 engine had an automatic gearbox so that flywheel was of no use. The spigot you are right, it‘s not settled in the picture but now is correctly fitted.

Starter grinding
S2 US 4.2 OTS. I‘ve installed an interim engine, S3 XJ6, using my original bellhousing and cleaned up starter. The flywheel is used, having some marks from previous „not-so-nice“ fitting pinion, I guess. Engine is hooked up and starts fine (seems to be lean on one Stromberg though). Occasionally on ...

Re: SII - Engine Levelling when refitting engine
Steve, the domed nuts are all of identical height and as David said, settling well on the copper washers. As Randall says the elongated bracket holes will allow for the engine to settle evenly. I‘m no longer worried about this. Now, to hook everything back up. Being a late US S2 with a/c and ps, spa...

Re: SII - Engine Levelling when refitting engine
So the engine mount bolts settled to be even left and right. Still, at a closer look the dome nuts on the cam cover still show a slight maybe 2-3mm height difference. Good enough, I guess. The drive shaft ist bolted back in place with the gearbox still supported with the lift. I‘ll try and level bet...
…As Steve says if you're putting the engine in from the top you need more clearance than the wheels alone will give. You could just remove the pin then put it back in when you have the box in.
Andrew thanks. I understand better now. I took the pin out, it cannot be omitted since it...

My S2 had the pin ( even with a large washer and a safety pin ) when It arrived from the US. I took off the ...

Re: S1 ignition wire conduit
Rob, Me thinks the S1 with the short bolts is a non nissue. „If“ loosening the nut brings the bolt along, just reset and torque. The longer bolts of the S2 engine go through water, if the bolt would release together with the nut, water (and potentially crud) might fall in the thread opening and proh...

Which colour needed? I might have the (black?) remnants you are welcome to have, if it suits your needs. I aggree on the more embossed design, rather than being fully pentrated. https://i.postimg.cc/3xqmSZRh/866-ABDD9-CA65-4-C23-8-B28-56-F3167-A1-F7-B.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/cJ8YV8gn/AFFC0-FC3-272-...

Re: jaguar etype 4.2 gearbox issue
Hi Jeff and welcome to the forum!
Tell us more about your car, is this a new problem whilst driving regularly, or after having work done on the car? I second Steve‘s assessment and would first check clutch hydraulics and setting of the slave cylinder.

Right around @0.15 - 0.17 your bonnet seems to be rattling in tune with the noise? Are your bonnet fasteners tight?

Re: Acoustic Cameras
There exist noise cameras imposing a graphical feature (similar to the heat sensitive pictures everbody is familiar with). The local Test Expo for all things Automotive measuring had them on display. You can point at say a group of people and see who is talking, and how loud. Similar, you can point ...

I‘ve never heard the 11mm in regard to E-Type Strombergs, 16-17 is the correct height.

Re: Camshaft bearing failure 4.2
Thank you for the replies. The crater does look more like corrosion. I‘ll have alignment checked and order new bearings. Also check oil feed lines. I‘ve taken out the inlet camshaft, no funny marks on that side. Once the bottom is open the main bearings will have to checked as well.
