Re: Oil pressure gauge

Just reviving this old thread, I am gathering the parts to convert to a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I will need to source an adapter to fit the gauge line to tapping used for the old electrical sender. It looks like a 1/2” fitting but what is the thread type and pitch? I guess it will be a funky ...

Re: Fuel tank cleaning

Hi Adrian, I have used this company to strip and clean rusty old motorcycle tanks. I have never had a car tank done by them but not too from you and certainly worth a phone call: Voith Industrial Services Warwick House, Watling Street Wilnecote Tamworth B77 5BH Let us know how you get on. Kevin

Re: carburettor leaking fuel

I researched the dimension of the o ring a while ago and came up with this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Imperial-O-Rings-Nitrile-Rubber-to-BS1806-70A-Shore-NBR-O-ring-seals-Packets/113109265829?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=413430739002&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 I have not fitted them yet but ...

Re: Running Temperature etc

I would be inclined to check the voltage regulator. Check you have good clean earths. Check voltage across the battery with engine running and no loads. Check again with lights on etc.

Re: Fan Motors

Looking at the image on the XKS Unlimited site of the motor brush assembly, the connectors are definitely not the same as the original connector. The original connectors were moulded rubber male/ female Lucas bullet type two way connector. The rubber moulding was a fairly primitive attempt at making...

Re: Steel wheel clamp FHC V12

Hi, Mine was also missing from my car as bought. I also could not locate the wire wheel version, and this was back in 2007. In the end I located a shorter clamp of the same design off another model Jaguar, cut in half and welded a length of bar between the handle and threaded end. Works great. Good ...

Re: Exhaust manifold heat damaged the hood paint

I have a similar problem around the bonnet vents on my V12. The cause on my car is the spray filler is not sufficiently heat resistant and eventually cracks. Only solution is to be move the spray filler and repaint!

Hi Graham,

This topic has come up before, info here:

I would recommend sticking with the Strombergs and replace all rubber fittings in the engine breather system.

Kind regards,

Kevin

Don’t go to the E-type Club who have a well meaning enthusiast who is not necessarily in line with the market or its trends. Hope that helps.
Hi Barry,

What is the issue? My last valuation was through the club, should I be concerned by this?

Kind regards,

Hello Wolfgang,

Was the Bosch alternator a straight replacement or did you need to modify brackets, pulley etcetera?

Re: Fuel Tank Sump - Tank Thread - Parallel or Tapered?

Hi Bob, Whilst that hex looks a bit chewed I think you could salvage it. Firstly remove the drain screw and washer. The washer should be copper or fibre, I don’t remember which but yours looks like steel. Then try a single hex socket to help give the best fix on the nut, and remove the sump. Clean t...

Re: Which Brake Fluid?

I had the same query a few years ago and enquired with AP. Their engineer recommended DOT 3 due to having a higher lubricity than DOT 4. Seems to work well in my V12.

Thank you Rob and Marek for your replies. Some useful advice from you both, much appreciated.

I think tapping into a gallery plug is the way to go, I will survey the options for the best location.

Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge

My oil pressure sender unit is failing and giving wildly varying readings on the gauge. It has been playing up for some time and I am confident it is the notoriously unreliable sender unit. Decided I will replace the OE system with the Smiths mechanical/ capillary gauge. As mine is an early car the ...

Turn the throttle stop screw clockwise approx 1/8 turn on each carb until you get the desired idle speed.

Should be straight forward.

Re: Mystery vacuum port

They connect to the air filter intake, air flow control flap. I believe the flaps were designed to assist very cold starting. The seals in vacuum units in mine leaked so I blanked the vacuum ports on the manifolds on both sides. There may be one on the left bank to the dizzy - not sure off hand. I b...

Re: Fumes in the passenger compartment with a series 3 Roadster

I suffered exhaust fumes in the cabin on buying my V12. Completely cured by replacing ALL rubber fittings on the engine breathing system and retuning the carbs. It is essential on a V12 there are no leaks in the breather system, and this includes the large rubber grommet on the top of the left cylin...
