Re: Removing PDWA, thread size/flare type of fittings
Thread size is 3/8NF24. Yes they are bubble flares. You might have to search a bit to find connectors for bubble flares, more commonly available for double flares … I wouldn't do this. Tampering with brakes, removing designated safety devices, not a good idea. Don’t tell your insurance company or re...

Re: High oil pressure
And have you changed anything? Is the gauge still being supplied an average 10V from the voltage regulator? Is the sender the correct type, with twin lugs in the centre? If the gauge is being supplied 12V (= 13.6V) and the sender is the type with single lug on the side, rectify both of these, should...

Re: Help with brakes please?
In my case (same symptoms) it was corroded cylinder bores, caused by car sitting for a long time allowing moisture to collect in the inverts. Master and slave. At the time renewal was cheaper than resleeving.

Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly
Sounds like not, you wouldn't get those fumes if it was properly vented. Do you still have your expansion tank and charcoal canister? With the filler cap removed, can you blow back through the vent pipe into the tank? With the tank fully drained, how much fuel can you put in before it thinks it's fu...

Re: New gear reduction starter motor failure?
That flywheel damage is bad, suggests to me the pinion and ring gear are incompatible, is the diameter of yr OEM and geared starter pinions the same, also the number of teeth? Either the pinion was incompatible causing the spring to break or the broken spring was the culprit, allowing the pinion to ...

Re: S3 Parts Catalogue and the Front Suspension
My unmolested original also had only the rear washers. These are thrust washers, hence 3 mm. The front washers protect the bush, prevent the damage you describe. The inner bore of the bush is fixed to the wishbone, the outer is fixed to the frame, there are no sliding surfaces, suspension travel is ...

Re: dyeing the sunbleached rear carpet on an OTS S3
My understanding, that I'd love to have corrected: Dye versus coating (painting): What is sold as dye is often just paint. Dye comes in bottles, paints come in cans. Dyeing spruces up an existing colour, painting changes colour. Dyeing only works on wool or nylon carpets, soak a sample in bleach ove...

Re: Series 3 Oil Pressure Gauge
Good luck, The electrical gauge has a 0 – 80 psi scale and a 0-100 psi range (sender). Note the elec. gauge scale is not linear, i.e. between 40 – 80 psi is smaller than between 0 – 40 psi. The mechanical gauge scale will be linear. To not lose accuracy you would want the scale as per the mechanical...

Re: Stromberg Bypass Valve setup
They all can be adjusted, ref link in post #3. If diaphragms or vacuum hoses are damaged the bicycle pump idea would likewise not work, until you fixed this. There are 2 types of bypass valve. On earlier Strombergs there was external adjustment and internal vacuum source, locally in the carb. The co...

Re: Stromberg Bypass Valve setup
Hilton, what is the issue you are trying to resolve? If you cannot satisfactorily adjust as per Marek's advice (I couldn't, one bypass would be open at idle, even when adjusted for maximum spring closing force) quickest way to blank them would be as per Marks suggestion at the end of this previous p...

Yes, photos better than words but diag more complete. Can yr diag be of how it was before your mods? There were 2 versions of the ballast resistor, before and from engine number 7S7560. My car should have had the early version but had the later, i guess because the earlier became NLA. Below is a pic...

Re: Tacho Not Working
On the plug, the two wires that need to be connected to the tacho are diagonally opposite, i.e. the G power wire and the WU sensor wire are diagonally opposite. I expect that the sensor wire is the one with the "small black plastic tube/ring", I expect that the ring colour is blue, not black? https:...

Ian, fyi: The plug with the loop in it is represented on the wiring diagram by three plug symbols, one symbol for each of the circuits that share this plug, i.e.: https://i.postimg.cc/GmZqQyb6/53wiring.jpg A 4-pin plug with loop is used instead of a 3-pin plug for convenience of removing the tacho, ...
