I had an idea on the Autobahn today whilst driving (boring empty at 180 km/h for 3 hours): What if I am wrong and my gauge means 8 mm instead of 0.8 mm ? It indicates 80 on the scale, but IIRC it was pretty loose still. Would this make sense ? 8-6.73 = 1.27 remaining... in the "wrong" direction. ???...

Hi Chris, yes I think this is it. I will get there in a few days once X-Mas + family is "over" and I can crawl to the shed again :-). I thought that the 100 NM torque would pull it home but maybe it does not so a HAMMER is needed :-) (I love my 2 kilo hammer) Naaaa, I am gonna be careful, but I?ll g...

Rear hub endfloat / spacers
Hi all, I finally managed to free the slotted outer drive shafts (I abrased the too- thick zinc with a smooth wire wheel !), so that I finally could try to determine the endfloat. I went the way the small youtube film shows- clamp the shaft by the yoke, lever the hub with a screwdriver, have a dial ...

I went the brake disc route, and I can say I used ordinary M10 threaded material (1 mtre 6 Euros). Problem is that on one of the bolts (I simply cut the 1 mtre in 2 halves) I had the nut to loose it?s thread 2 times  So, I am not sure if I should recommend this. I would do it again, as the sec...

Need: Rear shock absorber rubbers
All, I neeed to replace the rubber "eyes" on my rear shocks. They are the original type, and the rubbers are hard and show ruptures. This is due to the long time the car sat. The shocks have no rust on the chrome pushrod, and feel ok to a professional I asked. So I want to re-use them (at least for ...

S1 2+2 door window frame too high ???
Hi, I have already posted this on jag-lovers, but want to try to find some help here, too. I can't get the passengers door window frame to fit. The rubber seal stucks on the roof gutter / the chrome cover strip. I cannot lower the door: It's very low AND panel gap is nice. I cannot lower the frame. ...

Hi, no- the body is painted (I bought it painted from Pete, so .....), but I overhauled a LOT of tech bits, galvanized a LOT of them. On the list for this year is to re-put the interior, re-fit the front frames + all tech bits EXCEPT the engine, cause these are the last 3 bits to overhaul: Engine, I...

Prop shaft gaitor for early S1 2+2 ?
All, I need a prop shaft gaitor. So I thought fine, buy it at Limora (in germany). They have the SC parts catalogue. Saidly, I got the bellows (?) type used in most cars. My car has a metal "cup" over the sliding joint, so I need some kind of a "tube" which is a bit like, I am very sorry to say the ...
