Re: Where to buy a "Bonnet Hardware Kit"

Try Chuck at Monocoque: http://www.monocoque-metalworks.com/main/2015/10/jaguar-e-type-grade-8-bolt-kits/ I bought one of Chuck's kits (with a lot of freebies thrown in). I'm not bothered about retaining the authentic cadmium finish etc. Bear in mind his kit has almost everything you need to bolt a...

Re: Series one Independent rear suspension (IRS) overhaul?

You might want to consider part C22955SWB - the handbrake compensator upgrade - which addresses a point of MOT common failure. And while the assembly is off the car, I'd give thought to fitting this to make your life easier in the future: http://www.fossewayperformance.co.uk/remote-bleed-easy-bleed/...

Re: First aid kit

That brings back memories of my great uncle's Red Mk II:). By the time I knew him, he was a retired Air Commodore who had served in both WW1 and 2. He'd do hump back bridges at full speed even in his eighties. He had something like this under the passenger seat: https://s8.postimg.cc/9hfpzi5th/s-l16...

I know we don't name and shame here but, in fairness and for the avoidance of doubt, Hutsons were not my supplier.

Re: Which panel supplier?

This might not be a popular post but it is based on my experience. Others might differ but panel quality has been my main gripe undertaking the restoration of my S1 2+2. I think almost all UK-made panels are from one ultimate source which bought up all the E-Type tooling. I have given up buying UK p...

Simon, Congratulations! You're well on your way to emulating my brother who didn't finish his postgraduate study until after his 30th birthday. IIRC he has four degrees and a professional qualification. To date (and he is now 53) he has never worked outside a university... I know a lot of academics ...

Re: Query about the Gauge Shop

Hi, I've purchased a complete refurbished gauge set for my 67 E-Type from the Gauge Shop almost 1 year ago. They are very beautifully restored gauges! 2 months ago, i've installed the gauges but the speedometer wasn't working properly so i've contacted Alan from the Gauge Shop. I've sended the spee...

Re: Query about the Gauge Shop

For completeness' and fairness' sake, I thought I should report that I have just received my gauges back from Alan.

They look lovely.

Re: Query about the Gauge Shop

Barry,

Thank you for your message (and your reassurance re quality). I finally spoke to him today, and gleaned much of what you have said from him, and we have agreed a timetable for the return of my instruments (fully serviced).

I'm glad that things appear to be on track.

Best wishes

Query about the Gauge Shop

This is not designed to trash a supplier's reputation or to be a call for a scalping party, but a simple factual query. I was wondering if anybody here had specific current information about the state of play at the Gauge Shop. I sent Alan Davis at the Gauge Shop in Edenbridge my full set of gauges ...

Re: Exhaust back pipe query

Hello Peter, Did you drive the car with these exhaust? If so, was the noise bearable? I have had the first part (manifold to under the car = down pipe?) of my exhaust made already. And am getting close to a point where I can fit the rest of the exhaust to my car. The exhaust shop told me that in to...

Exhaust back pipe query

I have a couple of questions regarding the back pipes removed from my S1 2+2. https://i.imgur.com/hzyQqchh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uNRReGyh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SyeSzF1h.jpg The car had been "lumped" with a Chevy V8 engine and TH gearbox so the manifolds and forward part of the exhaust are not li...

My shell including bonnet was soda blasted very effectively without any ill effect that I can discern.

I've heard good things about ice blasting from friends, too, but have not used it or seen the results myself.

Help identifying Series 1 after-market aircon unit

I was hoping someone here would be able to help me identify this air conditioning unit, formerly fitted to my American S1 2+2: https://i.imgur.com/d2m5kJvh.jpg It looks like a later add-on rather than a dealer-fit, and still puts out commendably cold air. While it works, I'm in two minds about resto...

As you are modifying the car you will have to source after-market bump stops which are available in a range of sizes and styles e.g.: http://www.energysuspension.com/universal-products/bump-stops-shock-strut.html or https://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/bushes-bump-stops None are calibrated fo...
