Hi Simon, It was my daily walk to school in Sutton Coldfield, passing on my way a heather V12 coupe frequently being reversed out of a driveway on Wylde Green Road as I passed that sparked the passion for the V12 E Type. Jaguar also sourced a significant amount of the E Type in the locality, carbs a...

Hi Simon, The diodes are replaceable. It is some time since I did the job, but as I recall the diodes are push fit in the heat sinks. I recall using small splice clips to attach the lead on the new diode to the existing wiring, covered with a heat shrink tube to insulate. I found the diodes on line ...

Simon, They did my S3 roadster body in 2005 and did a brilliant job. I was directed to them Rod Jay Who is a specialist E Type body builder and restorer. They also do work for Robey and many of the other classic Jaguar specialists around Coventry. It was probably the best value outsourced service I ...

Marek, Interested to learn which XJS alternator you converted to and what was involved in fitting and wiring it up? Did you have to alter the mounting brackets to align the pulley? The Butec is feeble as soon as the lights or fan kick in, the indicator flash interval increases to about 10 seconds, m...

Hi Marcus First question is, how original do you want to keep the car? If you are willing to compromise on originality you can go for the new SU kit from Burlen. I hear it is good, but it must be around a ?1000. But you get brand new SU carbs correctly jetted for the V12, hopefully once fitted and s...

Hi Peter, It might be worth checking all of the exhaust mountings carefully around the centre boxes and the rear box. Check the 4 rubber rings and the hooks on the exhaust bracket and the body. At the back the metal tag on the box are prone to snap off leaving the box loose The exhaust is very heavy...

The method I used to clean the rust out of my tank was gather up half a bucket of garden stones, washed the soil off them and swirled them inside the tank until all flakes of rust were removed. It makes quite a racket and takes some elbow grease but very effective. Once completed rinse the tank out ...

I had the same issue, I filed new teeth into the ratchet plate with a good qaulity v shaped jewelers file. Worked perfectly since.

Worth a try.

Try Marawise in Coventry, they shot blast shells for Martin Robey and many of the other classic Jaguar restorers in and around Coventry. They blast cleaned my S3 roadster shell a few years ago, as I recal cost was less than ?300 then and a super job with no panel distortion.

Hi Michel, Get them re-plated in zinc. If you are undergoing a major rebuild throw all of the fastners and fittings in a bucket and take them for zinc barrel plating. Fasteners are generally finished bright zinc, parts such as door catches were often given a gold passivate, check the originality gui...

That seems a low selling price for a commemorative, I have seen them priced up to around ?180k in some of the top of the market dealers?
Is the current market depressed in line with the general economic climate?

Chris, I went for bundy as I wanted to retain the original look. Just my opinion but copper/ cunifer just looks wrong. I believe bundy is an annealed alloy, obviously more difficult to work than cunifer but I had no problems even with very modest tools. I use a very old MOPROD hand flaring tool whic...

You can buy 3/16 brake tubing in straight lengths from http://www.indanc.com/ in either copper, stainless steel or original bundy. I sourced all the bundy tubing for my V12 restoration from this company in 2005, including the 1/4 and 3/8 fuel pipe. I bought about 15 x 3 mtr lengths of the various tu...

Talking of acids, specifically be careful with the wire wheel cleaning fluids on the market. Applied some recently to my wheels, only left the stuff on for a minute. Some got on the front calipers and removed the gold passivate from the plated surface!
