Header tank: Aluminium, brass or stainless steel?
Hi all, A question that I keep wondering about is the preferred material for the header tank. It is well known that the life duration of steel header tanks (the original material) is often short due to corrosion by the coolant, especially if the coolant is not replaced on a regular basis. The first ...

You mean the two supposedly chromed trim finishers for the rear hatch window?

Re: Pb with mecanical oil pressure gauge
Mich, Re-reading your initial post, I think that your OP's (25-40 psi when hot, 60 psi when cold) are correct. Unless you mean 2.5-4 bars (40-60 psi) and 6 bars (80+ psi), which would be rather high. But unlikely as the Classic Quality gauges are with psi. Maybe the way your mechanical (capillary) g...

Re: Pb with mecanical oil pressure gauge
Mich, Your issue may be a too high oil pressure in the circuit, never discovered before because of a failing electrical gauge. As advised by Steve, you should verify with another mechanical gauge located on the oil filter housing and/or directly screwed on the engine (oil ramp) that the pressure is ...

Re: 67fhc, should I use old coil (tested, yes)
Thanks for the infos, David. Here another one from 5th month of 59, for my car of october 61, with a similar lead time: P1240936 (2).jpg I have a related question. My car has what seems to be an electrical capacitor besides the coil that I have not seen on other 3.8s. Is it due to the use of that HA...

Re: 5 1/2" rims with 185R15 tires?
OK Tadek. So what do you mean by trying to change spokes to keep a few spares: did you try unbolting a few of them? As an aside, it is challenging to unbolt these spokes as you need accessing the spoke heads with enough space to unbolt them, which is not easy because of the other spokes... In additi...

Re: 5 1/2" rims with 185R15 tires?
Tadek,
Do you mean that when trying to unbolt the spokes, the threads snap?
Did you soak the spoke end with penetrant fluid beforehand in case the spoke end attachment was rusted inside?

Re: 5 1/2" rims with 185R15 tires?
David, I don't know if the MWS wheels as above correspond to the original Jaguar wheels especially wrt the 5.5" wheel. Their triple lacing however seems to correspond. If so, it would mean that there is no need to remove the bump stops as the backspace of the 5.5" is only 89 mm whereas the one of th...

Re: 5 1/2" rims with 185R15 tires?
David, does this (required removal of bump stops) depend on the offset of the wheels.
And in particular, was the offset of the Jaguar 5.5" competion wheels designed as to not require such a removal?

Re: 5 1/2" rims with 185R15 tires?
Tadek, If these were for a Corvette, are you sure that the hub/splines are correct for an E-Type? Same (but less critical as it may be corrected by Borrani when rebuilding the wheel) is the issue of the offset. Fyi, I bought two years ago a set of "experimental" Borranis for E-Type with 5.5" wide ri...

Re: Tyre Dilemma - Blockley vs. Pirelli. Advice Please?
An alternative to better fill the arches is to put wheels with slightly smaller offset, or wider rims (5.5" or 6"), still with 185-15, so as to push tyres on the outside and to be more flush with the fenders. Have to be careful in the choice of offset however, not to rub on the fender and to still a...

Re: JAGUAR IS DONE.....
Interesting video but the reasoning that EV cars are the most effective and the cheapest is flawed imho, inasmuch that in practice, today and tomorrow, EV cars won't get their electricity from windmills or solar panels but from oil, coal or gas thermal plants! Which nullifies all the propaganda from...

I fear that e-fuel technology will not be that developed by 2035 and will remain very expensive.
And will existing cars at the time, and our XK engines in particular, be compatible with e-fuel?
