Re: Engine mount torque settings

There is no need for a torque setting for these, since they are not under dynamic load . With all due respect to Tim, a hard tug on a 24 inch bar sounds like over-torqueing by a considerable margin, and the paradoxical effect of this is to stretch the stud which enables it to self loosen much more ...

Re: Final T5 jigsaw piece

Good advice, Pete I had my transmission tunnel widened about 3/4" whilst undergoing prep and paint as I knew I would be using a T5. It was Derek Watson's suggestion. Probably a good idea but then you need to modify the gearbox cover as well, which I did but i think I might find somebody to make me a...

Re: Clutch master cylinder spacer

Here you go. One caveat - mine is for a series 1 3.8 with Kelsey Hayes set-up. I was so unimpressed with the one I received that I made my own, which was an altogether more satisfactory job, even though I cut it by hand and chain-drilled and filed the centre hole out. I didn't have access to any mac...

How much???

I've got one in my garage somewhere that I'll measure up for you. I'll try to do it tomorrow.

I remember being horrified at the finish too. I made my own in the end.

Re: Spinners stuck and wheels stuck on!

Surely that vented disc isn't standard!

I would review the whole set up because it just looks wrong to me.

Do you have curly or flat hub wheels? I suspect the former and if you fit flat hub your problem might disappear without resorting to any kind of vandalism on the brake calipers.

Re: Spinners stuck and wheels stuck on!

I would prefer painted but I'm told that it will be difficult to get off all the chrome plating with sandblasting so by powder coating it covers this. It's your choice of course but the powder coating will still follow any imperfections in the surfaces so don't be surprised if there are a few rippl...

Re: Spinners stuck and wheels stuck on!

Yes, that's right. Most people don't realise that powder coating forms a shell over the item and doesn't actually adhere to it like paint does. As soon as you get a crack or a chip then you've lost your protection. A couple of coats of a good zinc primer before powder coating helps a lot but wet pai...

Borrani's, if you're feeling flush or Turrino wheels for slightly less. Both are aluminium rims with stainless spokes and both are achingly beautiful. Well, very nice at least.

Re: Zeus single pot. Pistons not retracting

I don't understand why you would fit new calipers and not new discs. It seems to me the logical thing to do to ensure you get the best out of your upgrade. Not exactly the most expensive thing you'll ever buy. If they are still within wear limits then you could get the discs skimmed to make sure the...

Re: Repairing quarter light frame

I have a spare right hand quarter light if you're interested.

Clear glass, the frame is good although it would benefit from new chrome, especially if you're going for a concours finish.

Re: Zeus single pot. Pistons not retracting

If you've had 2 sets of calipers and they both show the same problem AND Zeus have given them a clean bill of health then it's clear to me that the problem lies elsewhere. My view is that there's a restriction somewhere between master cylinder and calipers that the Dunlop calipers can overcome but t...

Re: Stubborn Glass

I agree with all of the above and would add that getting the frames back on again after re-chrome is similarly difficult. I used tyre inner tube rubber for the seals and a rubber hammer to seat the frames properly.

Trim the excess rubber using a scalpel after the frames are fixed.

This is a well known problem. The reproduction parts are renowned for tearing themselves apart in no time.

The original Metalastic bushes seem to be the only ones that hold together.
