Re: Cylinder Head Specialist required Hampshire area.

I'd agree with Christopher. Rob Beere has just rebuilt the heads for my V12. First class job. Rob clearly knows exactly what to do and AFAIK its all done in house.

Re: Series 3, go on persuade me!

Hi Andrew, My FHC and OTS are both converted automatics with ETF boxes, 0.63 fifth and 3.07 diffs. The OTS covered 12k miles and the FHC about 3k over the last year. Both will easily top 22mpg (imperial) on a long run and never go below 16mpg even when chasing around the Picos or running at good aut...

Re: Where am I bleeding from?

First places I would check would be the rubber bung in the hole used to access the timing chain tensioner and the oil filter/oil cooler assembly.

Re: Rain shields: Which way round to they mount?

The bulk of the width is toward the centre. The mountings changed on the later cars and I think some replacements are drilled for either type. However, the JW restoration book shows the engine (rebuilt by Jaguar!) with them the other way round. But I think they would foul the bonnet in that configur...

Re: Dynator charging woes

Hi Frank,
Drive belts are readily available in a wide variety of lengths. A bearing & transmission belt specialist should be able to provide one the right size to solve the problem.

Re: Removing the S3 bonnet?

Hi Bernhard, Other than to remove the engine there really is no need to remove the bonnet. Just put the front end on ramps or stands and make up a link about six to eight inches long to add to the end of the stay. That way the bonnet can stand vertical and you will have good access all round. Cheers,

Re: Dynator charging woes

Are the pulley sizes correct? You might need smaller one on the dynator to get it to spin fast enough.

Re: Series 3 timing stroboscope

HI Chris, I use this one: http://www.gunson.co.uk/items/pdf/products/77008_instructions.pdf The leads are just about long enough to allow the timing light to be held in the right position and it gives a good bright flash. It has an adjustable dial that allows you to check the timing at 3,000rpm. I s...

Re: Series 3 Steering Upgrade

Hi Barry, Yes Rob is a great guy. Once you have refilled the fluid the system seems to bleed itself pretty quickly with just a few turns of the wheel from lock to lock and a recheck of the fluid level. I ended up positioning the adjuster valve up on the front frame cross rail so its easy to access. ...

Re: Exhaust manifold

Hi Allan, The lower manifold has a spigot that extends up into the upper manifold and can be tight if it has not been off in a while. The studs limit the movement but progressively working and tapping it side to side and front to back while pulling down should eventually get it off. I have not used ...

Re: MWS 15"x5" spoke tightening and leak

Just collected three MWS "tubeless" wheels after a three month and more than £400 repair. Wheels were all stainless and less than three years old. One or two loose spokes per wheel. Any attempt to tighten them caused immediate loss of the seal, which is a hard setting band applied above all the nipp...

Re: Power Steering Fluid

ATF as for the autobox, capacity is small, less than a pint I think. Level adjustment is very sensitive due to the shape of the reservoir. A little at a time is best. I used a long rubber tube attached to the top of the ATF bottle to make it easier to avoid spilling it. Its not the easiest place to ...

Re: Series 3 Steering Upgrade

Hi Barry, The reasons I went for the bypass valve option was partly because I wanted the option to adjust to a setting that suited me, ease of fitting, reversibility and cost. To fit it you just have to cut into the two hydraulic pipes, so if anyone wants to put everything back to standard all it ta...

Re: Series 3 Steering Upgrade

I have Rob Beere's adjustable valve in my OTS, perfectly happy with it. Adjustment seems quite progressive so you can add as much weight as you want. Straightforward to fit and no problems at all.
