Favourite picture of the year
Just as a bit of end of year cheer and fun, how about posting our favourite picture of our cars taken this year? We could always then ask our moderators to select their favourite (no prizes just the honour of taking part!)

Re: windscreen wipers rest position
Seems the factory tells us just how they should be positioned - low on the glass, parallel to the lower edge: That's such a good picture. I'd seen the black and white one previously but amazing to see it in colour. For the cars closest to the camera, it's really interesting to see the exterior/trim...

Re: Registering a Canadian 1962 Import
The DVLA are under an obligation for the vehicle registry to be accurate. However, when I went through the V55 application process following our car being imported from the USA with a 1964 title, they registered it as 1st Jan 1964 even though the build ledger and heritage certificate showed it not b...

Re: Colour choice
This is such a matter of personal choice. I was fortunate insofar that the last owner decided to change our car's colour from opalescent gold sand to a classic version of British Racing Green (there are several variants, some bluer than others). Notwithstanding the fact that it is not the colour the...

Re: Speed limit Protest
What a great clip from yesteryear. Sadly, in the UK, if we add up all the "privations" that have occurred since then, it's a considerable surprise that there's any cars on the road at all. Mind you..... if you look at the stretch of the M25 which houses the M3, M4 and Heathrow junctions, the average...

Nice - were the Pirelli Cinturato tyres already on it or have you sourced these?

Re: Master Brake/ Clutch Cylinder Aluminium Tags
So... for those of us with post Dec '62 3.8 cars, the hunt is now on for someone who could supply replica plastic tags as opposed to the Aluminium tags. Has anyone had any success with this in the past. If not, could someone produce a template from a tag they already possess?

Re: Master Brake/ Clutch Cylinder Aluminium Tags
Good day, I know found an unmolested 3.8 pedal box with all 3 labels on the master cylinder. Just to help with date and number of tags. The date on the plastic tags says 12/62. If nobody has an earlier date, we could as per today agree that the aluminum tags were used until 11/62. Nice being in UK ...

Re: Air filter housing blue paint and number
The air filter circular canister was black on all 3.8 E-types and early 4.2 E-Types prior to switching to silver (in line with the triangular delivery enclosure that sits on top of the canister). The latter was always silver in colour (with a slightly hammered texture). I can only presume that, in l...

Hi - Any update on these?
Re: The Queen
I would have thought someone could have supplied a Daimler DS420 Hearse. We too raised our eyebrows when we saw a Mercedes drive out of Balmoral. That was then compounded by the presence of the funeral directors' name on the rear side windows.

Re: DIFF. better 3,07 or 2,88 for 2+2?
Amazing detail above from David (thank you). Re the original post, at the end of the day, it is worth remembering that Jaguar changed the differential ratio a number of times to accommodate different market's speed limits. The last owner of my (USA) 3.8, changed the differential ratio from 3.54 to 3...

Re: In defense of the moss box
I have a Moss box in mine (I had the option to go to 5-speed when we did the mechanical refurb of the car but declined). Whilst certain upgrades are almost a necessity on a 3.8 (i.e. the radiator and brakes), the gearbox is part of what makes driving a 3.8 a particular experience. You DO learn to re...

David, I wonder whether there should be a link to this video from the 3.8 Factory Fit section?

Re: Master Brake/ Clutch Cylinder Aluminium Tags
Yes Please - two of these for my brake cylinders. There is a very useful article (post #66 on the 3.8 Factory Fit section) showing what stamping is required. https://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2006&p=39720&hilit=tag#p39720 . There are two different part numbers for each of the brake maste...

Re: Exhaust hooked safety bracket
Reading (as I do from time to time) the 3.8 Factory Fit section, I realised that my Stainless Steel exhaust does not have the "hooked safety bracket" (Part C19018) present to prevent the resonators from falling should the metallastic mount fail. Instead, the resonators (which look perfectly position...

Re: Headlights relay
I lost low/ dip recently while driving in the dark. It was a scary thing, having no lights or blinding oncoming traffic with full beam. The problem was a faulty fuse. It looked good, but had a dry joint which heated up and broke continuity. Cool it was fine. I had a near identical situation last Au...
Re: New Hood
I had my hood done by GB Classic Trim at Nuneaton. They were excellent and not only repainted the frame but got everything perfectly aligned prior to the hood going in place (which was made to measure). I would definitely go the route of getting it fitted professionally. That also meant (on my S1 3....

Thanks Andrew for the prompt response. All now adjusted so they're synchronised with the cam set to allow a bit of leeway.
