Re: Wheel/tire selection, help needed
I have MWS XW474 6x15" Aston Martin DB6 Mk2 wheels on my Series 1 FHC. These are technically incorrect for my car because they have flat hubs but I have vented discs & 4 pot calipers on mine and curly hubs foul the calipers. They are fitted with 215x65 tyres and fill the arches nicely while still be...

Nice job,Steve.
I'm in a similar position with a replica build. What solution did you use for seat belts to ensure compliance?

Re: Brakes slow in releasing
Hi Eddie Just because your reaction valve is new doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't sticking or the vent blocked. I've had some of these where the shuttle/piston has a line of moulding flash on it and it sticks and locks the brakes on. Carefully remove the flash with a scalpel and sand it back u...

Yep, definitely reversed.
This design obviously pre-dates the adoption of poka-yoke techniques, etc.
No wonder the Japanese companies kicked our backsides with quality and reliability.

Re: Wiring Routing Boot Through To Front Bulkhead ?
Do they not run through grommets in those holes just above the sill and then up and over the rea wheel arches? They do on my FHC but that doesn't necessarily mean very much.

I, too, have had excellent service and quality from ACF Howell.
They are always very busy and can appear chaotic but they have never lost anything of mine. They were recommended to me by the, much respected, late Derek Watson and have never disappointed.

Re: Washer motor. AGAIN
I recall reading an article, a good few years ago, where somebody retrofitted a modern generic pump inside the standard Lucas motor housing. I think it was the Jaguar Enthusiast magazine.
It gave a good spray of water, rather than the reluctant dribble the standard set up gives.

Re: Cooling fan relay questions
Good result, Maikel.
Although, the relay in you photo is a 4 terminal relay, which was used for the cooling fan. I think the horn relay was originally a 3 terminal item. It may be that you can't get the 3 terminal version any more and you would use a jumper wire between 2 of the 4 terminals.

What about an overheating ignition coil? 15 minutes is about right for a failing coil to make itself known.

Seat Runner Set
Hi I've been having a bit of a sort out and came across this set of seat runners that were sold to me a long time ago as being for my 3.8 series 1. I didn't know any better at the time but I was obviously mis-sold. Does anybody know what they are actually used on? https://i.postimg.cc/3rpm5P0g/IMG-2...

Is it possible, Maikel, that you have the horn relay which is mounted on the inside of the left hand mudguard, just ahead of the starter solenoid?

Re: Castor adjustment
Hi Paul. The setting links are to ensure that the car sits on the floor, which must be level, with the factory ride height settings. This is important because it affects the castor angle. This can be explained if you imagine raising the rear wheels off the ground while the front wheels are still on ...

Re: tightening torques on front suspension assemblies
Clearly, this isn't an E Type suspension assembly. What Rory has said is correct, you really need to know the thread diameter, pitch and strength grade before you can decide on the torque to use. In the case of a ball joint, you are unlikely to be able to find out the material and temper used in it'...

Andrew,
The mistake you have made is to fit a pulley and drive belt to it. If you hadn't done that then it wouldn't have failed.

Sorry to contradict here but the originality guides and parts manuals show the adjustment levers nearest to the transmission tunnel.

Re: tightening torques on front suspension assemblies
Most quoted figures are for clean (new) joints. You need to make allowance for things such as rust. Preferably, don't lubricate the joint before assembly but if you do then you need to reduce the torque applied quite significantly. Sometimes by as much as 40%.
