Re: steering column bushes

A few years ago, I put new plastic bushes (C23952/3) in the steering column of my late model S1 3.8 without knowing about the possible side-effect of metal expansion. Whilst it is not too bad, the column definitely stiffens up with the effect of heat-soak. I've left things alone in the hope that as ...

Re: Trimming

I too can vouch for the team up at GB Classic Trim. I had a new hood fitted to my 3.8 OTS a couple of years ago and they did a superb job (both inside and out). They refurbished the frame, trial fitted everything and then trimmed it to perfection (probably better than when it left the factory). They...

Re: Interesting Discussion

Everyone's view will favour their own choice. For myself, the 3.8 wins over the 4.2 by virtue of its overall appearance (including the seats with the top down). On the latter point, I prefer the appearance of the OTS seats to the FHC versions. I was nervous about their comfort level (having a bad ba...

Re: Cable/Pipe supports

Heat shrink is the best option. If you go that route just take extreme care around your new paint. Shield the surrounding areas well. You may wish to use two layers of heat shrink given the thickness of the originals (particularly on those out of sight areas where they will hold electrical cables o...

And from the factory fit section, a lhd car….
This picture is the clip for Speedometer cable (LHD) and keeps it angled correctly. I'd have to check on the P Clip location for the vacuum hoses.

Re: Manufacturers plate location

These plates were only fitted to cars solely destined for the US market from c. 1970 onwards (I'm not sure of the exact date) in order to show that the car had been built to meet the Federal 1971 Model Year Safety and Emissions Regulations. Does your car have rivet holes on the door showing that a p...

Re: Is my toolbox genuine?

The E-Type toolkit has different contents (see the Factory Fit section for the 3.8). The other giveaway that this is not for a 3.8 E-Type is that it has the ratchet present in it for the later versions of the metallifacture jack whereas, for the 3.8 E-Types, the jack had an integrated handle.

I was only thinking earlier this afternoon that something festive was missing!

Re: BBQ Paint Headers

Thanks Phil, Just curious , what is new and improved about SNG's Ex manifolds ? The US website mention little. You're right that there's little on their website. I recall something in a JEC email some while ago referring to an improved build process (may be Julian can elaborate if he sees this post...

Re: Upper column differences

As originally posted, the changes to the Steering Column were introduced at FHC (RHD) 860863 under Spares Bulletin L.26 (dated Oct 1962) and Service Bulletin I.7 (2nd Issue published Dec 1962). The changes were introduced to accommodate the "Waso Verkon" combined ignition switch and steering lock to...

Re: BBQ Paint Headers

Keith, if you are resigned to a flat finish, I was very pleased by the results of applying Eastwood's Calyx manifold treatment (graphite based) which provides a lustre finish. It is not black but can be applied with a soft toothbrush with the manifolds in situ. 20 minutes of stationary (well ventila...

I can 100% recommend Southern Classics in Twickenham. They did my IRS back in 2019.
