Re: Pb with mecanical oil pressure gauge
Understand the figures now! I don't think there is anything wrong with 60 from cold. I have a capillary guage, which has been checked against a workshop professional guage at various rpm. It is spot on at all revs. My cold pressure hits 70 psi - higher than my original guage would read! And it is co...

Re: Pb with mecanical oil pressure gauge
Did you say your running pressure was 2.5 to 4 pounds? Do you mean 2.5 to 4.0 psi, or a different scale of readings? What range does your guage read?
I must be misunderstanding the units you are measuring I think.

Re: “Dry” Engine Oil Capacity ?
I know you said the car is level, but how sure are you? A few degrees makes a lot of difference. I laid a bubble rule on top of the engine with car in my garage to ensure it’s horizontal

Re: Insurance who to use
Don't discount Admiral. I have 4 cars with them. The E has agreed value, named driver, full European cover (and they got me home from Belgium last year!) and it's about £150 p.a. I also have a Jag XFS, an F Type, and a Toyota Yaris. All with named drivers, all European cover. Total premium for all 4...

Re: Coolant on my bolts
I had the same coolant leakage on my ‘69 4.2 when I put the head back on. A bottle of Bars leaks sorted it, never had a problem since

Re: Carb Tuning (balancing/mixture)
I used a color tune (Gunson) to start, got them all to the colour recommended, and it ran like rubbish.
Fact is, the E likes to run a bit rich and using Colortune puts them all too weak.

Re: Clock on the 2+2
I've got the identical clock of course, '69 2+2. Still run mine on battery. I don'tr bother adjusting the time keeping much, because it simply speeds UP as the battery runs DOWN (pendulum, so it would) It stops now and then, so I tap it (hard!) and it starts again. Incidentally, I get the batteries ...
Re: New Tyres
I use Pirelli Cinturatos on my series 2. Very pleased with them.

Re: Back firing and breaking down once hot (20mins)
Understand about testing the leads, but when the car was at test they were fine. When it was underway and thus under load is when they started to miss. The cost of swapping them for new was only small and fixed the problem. I also had issues with copper-cored leads interfering with electronic igniti...
