RH fan turns wrong way round - from factory? (SOLVED)
Having removed the radiator of my “new” OTS to have it serviced, I was also repainting the cowling and installing new rubber flaps. Upon refitting the original fans, I tested them by applying 12V to both Brown and Green wires and then shorting out the connectors to the fan switch. Both fans ran… But...

Re: My new S3 OTS
It sounds to me as though your gearbox is stuck in intermediate gear. There is no axle ratio ever used on Es which would produce only 18mph per 1000 rpm It turned out that the tacho was incorrectly calibrated, overreading by almost 20%. I simply removed the tacho from the dash, opened a round brown...

And there was me thinking the only reason u sold the white one was you must have wanted a roof ... You're kinda right... I needed a roof for the Jensen interceptor I bought at the time. But during a long road trip I diacovered that the convertible roof offers very little by way of protection agains...

This thread is, it turns out, about an engine that turns over slowly at cranking.) IMHO: This thread is, it turns out, about an engine that IS BELIEVEDTO BE turning over slowly/too slow at cranking. Its not like the problem engine's cranking rpm was actually measured was it?? Or did I miss that bit?

Re: Exhaust manifold seal rings
I would rather skim those manifolds, taking into consideration that the two ports must still align after being mounted to the head.

Definitely the 75C one!
The cooling system will then have a much deeper reserve to deal with "high heat generation" situations.

Those bolts sure are difficult to get in.
I found that running a final tap into the diff makes it just a bit easier to get them in.

Re: Rad air control flaps
You should fit a vertical divider to S2 & S3 fan shrouds. I recon that is a VERY good suggestion Peter. If one fan somehow displaces less air than the other, surely the lack of a divider would also render the weaker fan's contribution even less efficient? Eg, if the good fan flows "10" units of air...

Re: Rad air control flaps
My view is that the purpose of those flaps is to close the cowling when the fans are running (just like a closed box) at low vehicle speeds. If they also open at high speeds with fans running, then sure, more air is being pushed through the radiator than what the fans can suck through. Do we know th...

Re: Rad air control flaps
Without those flaps fans will suck air into tbose holes, not through the radiator.
They must be fitted.

Re: JD40 Sprocket Retaining Tool
Not having the JD40 tool or easy access to them here in Africa, I have used normal washers with a hole just larger than the spigot on the sprocket centre and thin enough to slide into the groove. As backup, I drilled a small hole through the washer's rim and attached thin wire to it with the other e...

Re: Overdrive S3
wheelspin depends on torque and diff ratio. It also depends - very much - on flywheel mass (in case of a manual). I drove my previous S3 in two configurations (both fuel injected) : 1) low compression pre-HE with std (heavy) flywheel ; 2) 11:1 high compression HE with Fidanza light weight flywheel....

Re: newb wondering what it takes to fit a V12
What does it take to fit a V12 in an S1 FHC? Yep, you won't get much support for that idea among us on this forum. Why not get a S3 and rather spend your money on fitting a 5-sp transmission ? (this is the S3's biggest issue after a modern ignition system) I am the technical caretaker of a friend's...

for myself the 3.8 has always felt the more dynamic and racy.... I have owned quite a few Land Rover V8 engined vehicles, 3.9 Discovery 1, Discovery 2 4.0 (now converted to 4.6) and 4.6 Range Rover HSE. (I'll not mention my current 5.0L Supercharged Rangie....) The "sweetest" of them all was my sis...
